Finance redeploys its capabilities and boosts focus on project performance

In our highly competitive market, having fast insight on financial performance is paramount to support management and operational decisions. This is the reason why the Group Finance department is redeploying its capabilities to generate better insight for the projects.

We are adapting our business framework because we want to increase visibility on project financial performance, strengthen the partnership between Finance and the operations and increase the efficiency of our financial systems and tools” explains Hans Beerlandt, Head of Finance.

The reshaped Finance operating model is built both on new and existing functions.

· Within the business unit Contracting Europe, several changes will take place:

  • Stéphane Glorieux, previously BU Europe Finance & Administration Director, seized an internal mobility opportunity and is appointed as Finance & Administration Director for BESIX Netherlands. He will gradually handover his previous tasks to Eva Heirbaut and Vincent Delcour and will lead the 4PS project until the project completion.
  • Eva Heirbaut, previously 4PS process owner for operations, will strengthen the financial support to the operations in a new role of Finance & Administration Director for BESIX Belgium-Luxembourg. She will focus on the project performance monitoring and facilitate the collaboration between projects and central services. The cost controlling team will report to Eva.

· Within the business unit Contracting International, Hugues De Mol, previously Finance & Administration Director in Qatar, will reinforce the existing International Finance team. The focus of this team, as for Eva, is to work closely with the teams in the various countries to monitor their projects’ profitability and be the main point of contact for all financial requirements.
Vincent Gerresch remains responsible for the analysis of all financial related matters during tender stage.

· Existing transversal functions are maintained, with the teams of Wim Eggerickx (Group Consolidation & Reporting), Claire Loose (Group Treasury), Anouk Kielemoes (Group Tax), Nathalie Dewell (Group Risks & Insurance) and Werner Godaert (Group ICT).

· The project performance monitoring will be strengthened at two levels:

  • Wim Eggerickx and Kevin Troch are tasked with building a central database of all projects financial performance. This database will streamline the preparation of the Group's project reporting (known as the "doc-R"). This represents a step forward in the digitalisation of the financial information, enabling action to be taken based on clear data.
  • A new transversal function emerges as Director Performance Monitoring. Within Group Finance, this team will perform ad hoc detailed analysis of (mostly high-risk) project performance, analyse deviations, clarify assumptions and generate insight on the financial performance, to allow fast, informed decision-making and arbitration. This function will be the centre of competences in terms of cost controlling, establishing guidelines and coaching the Business Units in their application. Vincent Delcour, previously Head of Internal Audit, will take over this role.

· Vincent Delcour will also take the role of Finance & Administration Director of NV BESIX SA and Environment, covering the transactions, accounting & reporting, corporate overheads and auxiliary services. Vincent will also progressively define a roadmap for Financial Systems and tools.
The Group Internal Audit continuity will be ensured by Vincent until a replacement is found and onboarded.

Existing Finance functions within the business units Contracting Middle East and Australia, BESIX Real Estate, Concessions & Assets, Regional & Specialised Contractors are maintained and their relations with Group Finance do not change (functional report).

The way we redeploy our capabilities is a practical application of our commitment to support the projects and safeguard their profitability and anticipated margins, as well as to promote internal mobility of our talents. I am confident that our multi-skilled teams, with their expertise and skills, are the right asset for the business in meeting the challenges we face. I want to specially thank Stéphane and Vincent for the strong contribution in their prior role and for taking up these new challenges in the Group”, ends Hans Beerlandt.
