Week of 1 December

1. Pink skies over Deinze (Belgium)

Earlier this week, the team at Liv – De Molens shared a stunning sunrise from the site in Deinze, Belgium. This mixed-use development is transforming a former 2.2-hectare industrial site into a sustainable neighbourhood along the river Leie. After completing the first phase about a year ago, the second phase is now well underway. It features four new buildings, including a 16-storey residential tower.

2. Lighting test at One New Zealand Stadium (New Zealand)

Last week, the façade of One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch lit up for the first time. The 800-metre steel structure reflects the Canterbury landscape, creating a striking visual link with its surroundings. Wherever visitors stand, the façade mirrors the scenery behind it, blending architecture with nature. It’s stunning!

Boasting a capacity of 30,000 seats, this fully covered stadium will be New Zealand’s premier destination for major events, from international matches to concerts. Completion is planned for the first half of 2026.

3. Wust completes chemical production unit for Prayon (Belgium)

On 27 November, Prayon celebrated the opening of its new sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) production unit in Engis (Belgium), attended by Her Royal Highness Princess Astrid of Belgium and key representatives of the Walloon Government, including Minister-President Adrien Dolimont. The entire facility was built by our colleagues at Wust. Congratulations to the team!

4. Progress on the Oosterweel Link (Belgium)

Works on the Oosterweel Link in Antwerp are moving ahead at full speed. While the second-to-last tunnel element for the Scheldt Tunnel has already been immersed and demolition of the iconic Merksem viaduct has begun, new activities are starting too. Last week, the ROCO team in East Antwerp kicked off sheet piling and secant piling works in one of the site’s sub-areas. These works are key for building the sunken Ring Road and creating a construction pit for relocating Aquafin’s wastewater collectors.

And then this... Connecting with talent in Dubai

Two weeks ago, BESIX Middle East attended the Tawdheef x Zaheb job fair in Dubai, a great opportunity to meet talented candidates ready for their next step in construction and engineering. Events like this help us discover new talent to realise our many projects across the globe. A big thank you to the colleagues of BESIX Middle East who were present for their time and dedication!
