Week of 18 November
1. Belgium’s biggest data center is coming together
In Neder-Over-Heembeek, near Brussels (Belgium), BESIX is building a new cutting-edge 32MW+ data center on behalf of KevlinX. The project has been progressing well, with the frames for 2 of the 3 floors now complete. This keeps the team on schedule to finish phase 1 by autumn 2025. Keep up the good work!
In joint venture with key MEP provider Equans, BESIX is in charge of the design and construction of this advanced, turn-key data center. Specifically, our team is managing the civil, structural, and architectural aspects, while Equans is handling the design and installation of the MEP components.
2. Concrete works are fully underway for Picchiarella tunnel (Italy)
Together with Donati S.p.A., we are doubling State Road 318 in Italy to enhance the connectivity and traffic flow between the cities of Perugia and Ancona. The project also involves the construction of a viaduct, a bridge and two tunnels, measuring 874 metres and 1,545 metres respectively. In the 874-metre Picchiarella tunnel, concrete works for the tunnel lining are progressing well, with only 50 metres remaining. Good job, team Italy!
3. Three million safe hours without LTI at Project ONE (Belgium)
Last week, our Vanhout colleagues and their partner Mourik celebrated a remarkable achievement at Project ONE, reaching 3 million manhours without LTI (lost time incident)! As a thank you for the hard work, the client treated the teams with delicious French fries and a snack. Congratulations, team Vanhout!
Project One involves the realisation an ethane cracker in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges for INEOS, one of the world's largest chemical producers. Besides Vanhout, Franki Foundations is also playing a significant role in the project, focusing primarily on the foundations.
4. Inauguration first footbridge (Gabon)
Exciting news from our team in Gabon: our team has celebrated the inauguration of its first footbridge in Libreville, marking a significant milestone in the capital. The event was honoured by the presence of the Minister of Public Works. This inauguration is part of a design-build contract between the Gabonese Ministry of Public Works and a joint venture comprising BESIX, MATIERE, and MBB. In total, the project will deliver seven structures, including two 200-metre flyovers in Libreville and the impressive 200-metre steel Ebel-Abanga bridge. Congratulations, team Gabon!
And then this… Another successful BYC Party took place!
A few weeks ago, the 2024 edition of the BYC party took place in Tero Waterloo (Belgium). Once again, it was a resounding success. To make the evening even more memorable, the organisation team had created a fun BESIX quiz, designed to test our young colleagues’ knowledge of our Group. Rumour has it, that the winners won a pretty cool prize!
The BESIX Young Community, or BYC, brings together BESIX employees under the age of 36, in particular through the organisation of activities aimed at creating a network and a community. Such communities exist in several countries where the Group is active.
