Week of 12 October

1. From locks to skyline, our Dutch projects hit the screen (The Netherlands)

From locks to skyline: two very different BESIX projects recently had their moment on Dutch television. Bouwen aan de Toekomst took viewers behind the scenes at the Krammer Locks and POST Rotterdam, revealing two projects where engineering, logistics and sustainability come together in very different ways. At the Krammer Locks, we are working within the ZEEKR joint venture on a major modernisation of this important Delta Works complex, including upgraded installations and an innovative freshwater-saltwater separation system using air bubbles. POST Rotterdam, meanwhile, offers a glimpse of a familiar city landmark beginning a new chapter. A nice opportunity to see our colleagues’ craftsmanship through a different lens. Thank you to Dieter Behaeghel, Roderick Verheij, Mike Vernie and everyone behind the scenes who helped bring both projects to the screen.

2. WellBe wins (Portugal)

A project where environmental performance and wellbeing are not separate ambitions, but part of the same design story? Yes, we can. In Lisbon, WellBe, BESIX RED’s flagship office development, has just received the Sustainability Award at Prémios Construir 2026, putting measurable performance behind a people-first office concept. Co-developed by BESIX RED and Atenor, and designed by Saraiva + Associados and A2M Architecture, the development brings together more than 30,000 m² of office space in Parque das Nações. Its sustainability credentials include BREEAM Excellent and Passive House certifications, while its energy consumption is nearly 30% lower than that of conventional modern office buildings. The award recognises a project designed with both people and the environment at its heart. Congratulations to the BESIX RED team and all the partners whose work helped turn those ambitions into an award-winning building.

3. Twenty kilometres through the heart of the City of Light (France)

Twenty kilometres in the legs, with Paris providing the scenery. On Sunday 11 October, part of the BESIX France team took on the 20 km de Paris, following a route through some of western Paris’s most iconic landmarks before finishing at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. The City of Light provides quite a backdrop in the photos, and one image even catches Tour Triangle in the distance, a fitting little nod to the flagship project waiting for our colleagues once the running shoes are back in the cupboard. Beyond the sporting challenge, this was above all a moment to share as a team, topped off with a well-earned brunch. Congratulations to everyone who covered the distance, and a big thank you to Mady Lefevre for the organisation.

4. One step closer to Brisbane’s new sporting landmark (Australia)

The BESIX Watpac–John Holland joint venture has moved to the next stage of the selection process for Brisbane Stadium. The venue at Victoria Park is set to host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies and athletics events at the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with construction planned to begin in 2027. Following the first phase of the Early Contractor Involvement process, the joint venture will now work closely with the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority and the stadium design team to finalise the design details and construction methodology. For our BESIX Watpac colleagues, this milestone builds on a Queensland track record that includes Suncorp Stadium, the Gabba and Queensland Country Bank Stadium. Kudos to everyone involved, and best of luck to the teams as they move into the next phase.
