Week of 9 March
1. New contract for student accommodation (New Zealand)
After One New Zealand Stadium - which is on the brink of being delivered, our BESIX Watpac colleagues haven now secured a second project in the country, this time in Canterbury: a purpose‑built, catered hall of residence for Lincoln University. The five‑storey, two‑wing building will offer 231 bedrooms, along with study areas, communal spaces, a theatre, a games room and landscaped outdoor areas. The project will support the university’s commitment to creating a safe, comfortable and welcoming campus environment for students. Good luck, colleagues!
2. Efficient loading at BESIX Infra’s site in Burcht (Belgium)
At BESIX Infra’s concrete and recycling site in Burcht, the team successfully used a mobile conveyor belt for the very first time to load tar‑containing milled asphalt onto a ship. Working together with two wheel loaders, they loaded 1,500 tonnes in only three hours before the material headed to the Netherlands for processing. This new approach not only speeds up the operation but also supports a more efficient and sustainable way of working, keeping around 60 semi‑trailers off the road and reducing overall transport movements.
3. Major step for the Corda Arena (Belgium)
In Hasselt, our Vanhout colleagues are making strong progress on the state‑of‑the‑art digital Corda Arena. Set to become the largest venue of its kind in continental Europe, it will offer 10,000 m² of advanced technology installations and welcome up to 4,000 people on site, with unlimited virtual participation. Last week marked an important milestone: the installation of six truss girders that will support the entire roof structure. Each truss measured over 41 metres and weighed between 18.5 and 20.5 tonnes, lifted into place at a height of 19 metres. A great achievement for the team and a key step in shaping this future events hub!
4. Iftar gathering in Abu Dhabi
In Abu Dhabi, our BESIX Middle East colleagues hosted a warm and friendly iftar for 570 blue-collar employees observing Ramadan. It was a moment to share a meal, connect with one another and celebrate the spirit of the holy month as a team. In this challenging period marked by uncertainty, coming together in this way brings a welcome sense of normalcy and solidarity. A simple gesture that reflects our values of inclusion, respect and togetherness across the region!

And then this... Graduates start their journey at BESIX Watpac (Australia)
This week, our BESIX Watpac colleagues welcomed their 2026 graduates as they began the two‑year Graduate and Early Career Development Programme. Their first day was packed with development sessions, specialist presentations and a Q&A with our General Managers, rounded off with a site visit offering a close look at how complex projects are delivered.
At the same time, BESIX Middle East has opened applications for its very first Graduate Programme, giving young professionals the chance to gain hands‑on experience, contribute to landmark projects and grow within an international environment. Good luck to all new graduates joining our Group!
