Works on the impressive high rise Triangle in the south of Paris have progressed well recently. Our colleagues of BESIX France are in charge of constructing this 180-metre-tall tower, which is designed by the renowned architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron. Boasting a Radisson Blu hotel, daycare centre, shops, offices, and a viewing deck with a restaurant, the Parisian skyline will soon have a new iconic feature. Let’s take a look at what the teams have been up to and what is coming in the next months!
What’s been happening?
With the completion of the raft and the removal of all struts, the foundation and supporting works are finished. In addition, the teams have been engaged in masonry, painting and insulation works. Meanwhile, progress has been made on the MEP works and on the installation of the escalators in the lobby. When we go a little higher, we can observe that the first façade panels were successfully installed.
In terms of structural work, the teams have been continuing on the vertical and horizontal structural elements. Works have now reached level +6. One of the milestones of past months was the provision of the Renan passageway, a tunnel under the site for which we conducted a series of works. The first telescoping of the tower cranes has been successfully executed as well without any impact to the ongoing works.
What's next?
In the following months, our colleagues of BESIX France will continue the works on this unique project in Paris. Several milestones are coming up, such as commencement of elevator installation, delivery of the generators, completion of several mock-up zones, the start of MEP and finishing works in the toilets on the existing floors... Additionally, Triangle’s superstructure will continue to climb higher and the teams will proceed with the façade’s installation.
Sustainable efforts
Triangle is designed to comply with BREEAM Excellent and HQE Exceptional environmental certifications, along with the Effinergie label. Once finished, the high rise will showcase an energy efficiency performance of 40 % below foreseen regulatory thresholds in 2050, including geothermal energy, photovoltaic panels, double skin façade, as well as hyper connection to public transportation and one of the largest bike parking in Paris of 2,000 m².
Moreover, during construction as well, we’re constantly looking for ways to limit our environmental impacts. For example, 106,000 m³ of excavated soil has been recycled in a variety of ways (incl. backfilling, barge transportation and quarry redevelopement), which reduced the carbon impact by 280 tonnes of CO2!
Additionally, efforts are being made to minimise impact regarding our material use as well. For instance, 50-70 % of the aluminium used for the façade for the project is recycled and low-carbon concrete (CEM II & CEM III) is extensively used.
“Every day, the team is faced with numerous challenges related to unique and complex projects. The pressure won’t decrease, on the contrary, but every day the team is even more motivated and determined to succeed as we see the project taking shape and various new trades begin their activities on-site. I can only express my gratitude to all my colleagues and refer to the motto of our project: ‘Le triangle de la réussite !’.” - proud Koen De Rooy, Project Director at Triangle
Well done, team Triangle. Keep up the good work!
