BESIX Invest commissions large solar installation on own premises in Schelle, Belgium

BESIX Invest has successfully commissioned a new photovoltaic solar installation at the joint headquarters of BESIX Group’s subsidiaries BESIX Infra and BESIX Unitec in Schelle, Belgium. With 715 panels generating 360 MWh annually, this marks a significant step in the Group’s commitment to sustainable energy and carbon footprint reduction.

Large installation

The installation comprises 715 solar panels mounted across 3,700 square metres of rooftop space on the site’s logistics and equipment service buildings. With an installed capacity of 420 kWp, the system is expected to generate approximately 360 MWh of green electricity annually.

The energy produced will be consumed across the entire site: the office spaces, the adjacent workshop, and the electric vehicle charging stations on the main parking area.

“This project is a demonstration of BESIX Group’s integrated, in-house capabilities,” says Quentin Olivier, Business Development Manager at BESIX Invest. “The Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) work was carried out by Energieconcepten, a subsidiary of Vanhout, itself part of the BESIX Group, underscoring our Group’s strategic positioning as a green one-stop shop for sustainable infrastructure. On top of this, the installation also includes a market-based curtailment system, an advanced mechanism to optimise the value of the electricity injected into the grid. A clear win-win situation!”

This milestone highlights BESIX's ongoing efforts to implement smart energy solutions across its operations and to lead by example in the transition toward a more sustainable built environment.
