Action plan to reinforce compliance with social regulation on contruction sites (Belgium)

Group 1 min read

At BESIX, we build for the long term, respecting the rules and people. In particular, this means paying constant attention to compliance with the legal and social obligations governing our sector and our activities: construction site declaration, Check-in At Work, social and tax deductions, prohibition on the hiring out of workers, social dumping, financial subcontracting, etc.

Vigilance
In recent years, the Belgian authorities have made it a priority to combat illegal social practices, and have increased the number of checks and penalties exponentially. This has shown that certain situations could lead to confusion, for example in the way we work with our subcontractors. Most of the time, these situations arise from a simple lack of knowledge of certain rules, but they always involve real risks for the BESIX group and the teams concerned.

Vigilance is all the more important because the penalties are increasingly severe: civil and criminal proceedings against the company and its directors, fines that can go as far as imprisonment, reclassification of contracts, joint and several liability for arrears of remuneration or contributions, and the risk of exclusion from public contracts.

Action plan
To meet these challenges more effectively, BESIX is launching an action plan for social regulations on construction sites. Our approach aims to :

    1. Better clarify our internal processes, so that everyone knows what they can do and what they should avoid;
    2. Train our staff so that the rules are known and understood in a practical way;
    3. Share information on a regular basis, in the form of simple, accessible communications;
    4. Provide practical support for construction sites, using tools and tailored assistance;
    5. Review our subcontracting contracts to ensure that they fully comply with the legal framework and our values.

Gradual implementation
This action plan will be rolled out step by step over the coming months. You will therefore regularly see information or initiatives relating to these themes. The aim is not, of course, to make our day-to-day work more complex, but to help our teams work in a clear, secure and respectful environment.

A collective commitment
Construction site social regulations are not just about complying with our legal obligations: they are also about respect for workers, their rights and the values of our company. By taking an active part in this process, everyone contributes to reinforcing the solidity of our projects and the reputation of BESIX.
