Week of 25 September
1. Tre Vescovi Bridge scaffolding installed in Valfabbrica (Italy)
Our colleagues in Italy have reached a significant milestone in Valfabbrica: the installation of scaffolding, a critical element before launching the Tre Vescovi bridge. This brings us one step further in this impressive endeavour, which aims at improving connectivity between Perugia and Ancona by doubling the length of the state road 318 by 3.1 kilometers. Complimenti to our team in Italy and to the BESIX-Donati consortium!
2. Scheldt Tunnel: engineering marvel connects Antwerp's banks (Belgium)
After nearly eight months of tireless work, the first two tunnel elements of the Scheldt Tunnel are now complete. These elements are versatile, accommodating traffic tubes, and safety escape routes, along with a wide bicycle shaft promoting eco-friendly mobility. Notably, the tunnel's graceful curve design has posed a unique challenge, requiring constant precision from a dedicated team of surveyors. Listen to colleague Dieter’s explanations in this nice TV news report (in Dutch).
Approximately 130 workers are already forging ahead on the remaining tunnel sections, aiming for completion by the end of next year. The Scheldt Tunnel promises to revolutionise transportation in Antwerp, connecting its Left and Right Banks in style. Good job, COTU team!
3. And we’ve got legs! (Australia)
Brisbane's Kangaroo Point Bridge project reached a significant milestone last Thursday as the first two lower mast legs were delivered via barge, making a grand entrance after leaving the Port of Brisbane at 5:30 AM and arriving on site by 8:00 AM.
Brisbane's anticipation for this iconic bridge continues to grow, and the arrival of these essential components is a substantial "leg up" toward realizing the city's infrastructure aspirations. Kudos to the BESIX Watpac team for their dedication to this transformative project!
4. Elevating infrastructure quality: Flemish Parliament gathers for PPP discussion (Belgium)
Last week, some 200 experts gathered at the Flemish Parliament and engaged in a passionate dialogue about the vital role of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects and their potential to revolutionise the construction industry. Their shared vision? To elevate project quality, cost-efficiency, and delivery timelines.
In partnership with Flemish authorities, BESIX is actively involved in fine-tuning the PPP framework and streamlining related processes. The ultimate objective is crystal clear: to foster the growth of top-notch infrastructure and buildings throughout Flanders, benefitting all those involved.
The event was enriched by contributions from prominent figures, including Ministers Lydia Peeters and Matthias Diependaele, as well as our very own Johan Bel. With the collaborative spirit and innovation showcased, Flanders' infrastructure future shines brighter than ever!
And then this... global Clean-Up Day!
Last Thursday, BESIX Foundation and BESIX QHSE extended an invitation to join the Clean-Up Day initiative all around the world. This global sustainable event is a call to action for everyone to assemble teams with colleagues and dedicate just one hour of their day, whether during the morning or at lunchtime, to collect waste from their immediate surroundings.
Participating in this collective effort means contributing to a cleaner and more environmentally respectful world. This global project symbolises a step toward a brighter tomorrow, driven by the commitment of individuals and teams alike.
On this occasion, a photo contest was organised by the BESIX Foundation. We have already received some very nice pictures, as you can see below, from all over the world!
