We’re pleased to announce that MIC Construct, our entity in Qatar, has completed construction activities for the North Field Expansion Project at the Port of Ras Laffan. This milestone was achieved after a successful final project walkdown with our clients, Qatar Energy and Samsung C&T. A big congratulations to all team members involved!
The North Field Expansion project, which began in 2021, involved adding four new LNG berths to the existing six at the Port of Ras Laffan. This expansion aims at enhancing Qatar’s annual LNG production capacity from 77 million to 110 million tonnes. Additionally, the port can now accommodate various types of LNG vessels due to its increased capacity.
A unique aspect of the project was the establishment of a dedicated precast factory at Industrial City, producing up to 450 m³ of concrete blocks daily for the marine structures. Each of the four new berths was carefully assembled and reinforced, with a final capping beam providing a secure finish. In total, no less than 3,349 of these blocks were manufactured for the project.
Safety remained priority number one throughout the entire project. This commitment earned MIC Construct several safety awards, including the Outstanding Performance Award at the Qatar Energy LNG Annual Safety Day Summit and Best Contractor of the Month in January 2023 from our client Samsung C&T.
“At MIC Construct, we’re proud to contribute to the Qatar’s infrastructure and logistics capabilities. Our expertise in marine works, innovative solutions and practical project management has been vital in achieving our milestones safely and efficiently. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to this success.” - Benoit Vallée, Project Manager at MIC Construct.
Moving forward, the focus on-site will shift to addressing the remaining few issues and demobilising the facilities.
