Week of 24 November
1. Double visit at Meir Project (Belgium)
The Meir Project in Antwerp welcomed two special groups of visitors last week. Around 60 architects from Netwerk Architecten Vlaanderen explored the site to see how new construction and renovation come together in this ambitious development. Later, colleagues from Jong BESIX Nederland, our BESIX Young Community* in the Netherlands, visited to admire the work of their peers. The project is transforming a former building complex into a vibrant mixed-use space, featuring a sustainable campus for Karel de Grote Hogeschool and a high-end retail complex for Meir Corner.
*The BESIX Young Community, or BYC, brings together BESIX employees under the age of 36, in particular through the organisation of activities aimed at creating a network and a community. Such communities exist in several countries where the Group is active.
2. First phase completed at Portonave (Brazil)
In Navegantes, BESIX and ECB are upgrading Portonave’s maritime infrastructure to accommodate larger vessels. The project involves building a new quay wall in the same location as the existing one, all while keeping port operations running. The first section of the quay wall is now complete, marking the end of phase one. Work on the second phase has already started and is scheduled for delivery next summer. Well done, team!
3. Sunset in Montenegro
Our team in Montenegro shared some stunning sunset pictures from Lustiča Bay. BESIX has been part of this transformation since 2012, delivering projects such as the award-winning Chedi Hotel and complex marine infrastructure. Just a few months ago, we completed one of the most technically challenging buildings in the development. What an incredible setting to work in!
4. Kiddybuild inspires young visitors (Belgium)
Last week, our colleagues from the Equipment Department in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw and the team at The Hive office project in Brussels welcomed primary school children as part of BESIX Foundation’s KiddyBuild initiative. The goal? To introduce them to the many trades in the construction world. A big thank you to everyone on-site for taking the time to guide the children around. Who knows, maybe we’ve inspired a future construction hero!
And then this... Wust nominated for Embuild Foundation Award
Our entity Wust is in the running for an Embuild Foundation Award for its support to the non-profit organisation Amonsoli. With the support of BESIX Foundation, Wust recently helped renovate a neglected building that will soon become a shelter for children placed in care by youth protection services. Thanks to the team’s technical expertise, the building was transformed into a safe, sustainable and functional space.
The Embuild Foundation Awards recognise construction companies that go the extra mile in social responsibility through partnerships with non-profits, governments or other organisations.
