Week of 23 September
1. BESIX successfully delivers 3 railway underpasses (Belgium)
Our team working on the Regional Express Network (RER) railway line in Lillois (Belgium) has successfully delivered three new railway underpasses for Infrabel and TUC Rail. The works also involved upgrading the nearby road infrastructure. The project is part of a larger plan of Infrabel and TUC Rail to expand the railway from two to four tracks, enabling future RER trains to operate on separate tracks from other types of trains, such as international ones. Congratulations, team Lillois!
2. Stunning progress at Tanga jetty project (Tanzania)
In the north of Tanzania, our teams are designing and building a jetty and load-out facilities in the bay of Tanga. This summer, we began using the launching girder specifically made for this project, significantly advancing the jetty's construction in the bay's shallow section (picture 1). The teams are gradually getting used to operating the girder and are becoming more efficient (and thus faster) in their work! In the deep section as well, works are advancing steadily with the help of the Rima barge (picture 2). Go, team Tanga!
3. A timber first in Cairns (Australia)
The BESIX Watpac teams in Cairns are making significant progress on James Cook University’s Cairns Tropical Enterprise Centre, which will support teaching and research in STEM, Health Sciences and Indigenous Education.
This project marks the first use of glued laminated beams and cross-laminated timber floor and wall panels for a building's structure in Cairns, setting a new standard in sustainable construction. About 85% of the timber is already installed, with the remaining timber to be added in the coming months. Keep up the good work, colleagues!
4. BYC visits project of Jacques Delens (Belgium)
Recently, the BESIX Young Community in Belgium (BYC) organised a BYC Site Tour & Afterwork at Jacques Delens’s Général Jacques 202 project in Brussels (Belgium). The site team enthusiastically guided them around the project, which involved the renovation of 61 social housing apartments with a strong emphasis on circularity and material reuse. Afterwards, the visitors got to chance to get to know each other and network over a delicious burger and fries.
The BESIX Young Community, or BYC, brings together BESIX employees under the age of 37, through the organisation of activities aimed at creating a network and a community. Such communities exist in several countries where the group is active.
And then this… Family time in Walibi!
Last week, BESIX Infra and BESIX Unitec organised their annual Family Day, which took place in the amusement park Walibi. And judging by the smiles on everyone's faces, it was a great success!
