Week of 15 December
1. Halfway there at Aquafin’s Sludge Mono-Treatment Plant (Belgium)
Work is advancing well at the Port of Ghent, where BESIX and Indaver are delivering Aquafin’s new Sludge Mono‑Treatment Plant. Thirteen months after breaking ground, the photos below show the steady progress on site.
Scheduled to begin operations in 2027, the plant will treat sewage sludge from about four million people in Flanders. This corresponds to two-thirds of all sewage sludge in the region. BESIX and Indaver, under the FOSTER consortium, are responsible for the design, build, financing, and maintenance and operations until 2046.
2. The turf is down at Te Kaha (New Zealand)
Our BESIX Watpac colleagues at One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch have reached a major milestone: the turf is down! The fully covered arena features a natural playing field supported by smart systems to keep conditions consistent throughout the year. With capacity for 30,000 spectators, the stadium is moving closer to opening, with the first event planned for April 2026. It is set to host major matches and concerts across New Zealand.
3. Milestone in Copenhagen (Denmark)
Great news from Denmark! The team has completed the first tunnel segment in the Kalkbrænderiløbet passage. The passage, which normally provides access to the marina, is temporarily closed while the team builds the new structure. Completing this first segment brings us a step closer to reopening the marina access and delivering the 1.4‑kilometre cut‑and‑cover tunnel that will improve links to the city’s northern harbour area.

4. Progress at Lambermont Viaduct (Belgium)
In Verviers, our BESIX‑Galère team is making solid progress on the rehabilitation of the Lambermont Viaduct along the E42/A27 motorway. Work on the northbound side is moving ahead and should wrap up by spring 2026, after which the team will switch to the opposite direction. The project focuses on improving safety and durability while keeping disruption low, with tasks like repairing the deck slab, replacing expansion joints, adding guardrails with noise barriers, and widening the viaduct for safer emergency lanes. And to add a festive touch, the team has placed a BESIX‑Galère Christmas tree on the viaduct (swipe to see it)!
And then this... Procurement Suppliers' Forum 2025 (Belgium)
Last month, our Procurement team hosted a Suppliers’ Forum on decarbonising construction, bringing together architects, engineers, real estate developers, BESIX management and procurement colleagues. The workshop mixed open discussion with practical ideas from across the supply chain. By sharing what works and what doesn’t, we are strengthening BESIX’s sustainability mindset and taking clear steps to cut the carbon footprint of our projects. The day ended with useful takeaways, new contacts and a shared commitment to keep improving.
