Week of 13 October

1. Impressive progress in Paris (France)

Our team in Paris is making great strides on the Triangle project. Structural works have now reached the 37th floor, and the façade is up to the 29th. Work is also progressing on the hotel and the striking entrance lobby. The next big step? Installing the steel structure for the final four floors at the end of November, a technically complex phase that the team has spent the past year redesigning and coordinating. Good luck, team!

Triangle is a unique new mixed-use development near the Expo Porte de Versailles, offering premium offices, a 4-star Radisson Blu hotel, retail spaces, topped off with a panoramic viewing deck and restaurant overlooking Paris.

2. Update from Oosterweel Link’s ROCO team (Belgium)

In Belgium, the ROCO team is making strong progress on their part of the Oosterweel Link. Last week, they carried out a load test on the 150-metre-long arch bridge of the Bypass, ahead of the temporary highway’s opening later this month. No less than thirty fully loaded trucks, a total of 1,290 tonnes, were used to assess how the bridge performs under heavy traffic. The test was a success, which means the Bypass can safely open later this month.

In addition, the team completed their largest concrete pour for the underpass at the Antwerp-East intersection. In total, 1,500 m³ was poured, using 1,500 m³ of an innovative fire-resistant concrete they helped develop. This new mix meets strict safety standards without the need for additional fireproof panels. Well done, team ROCO!

3. Awards for BESIX Watpac (Australia)

Last week, two BESIX Watpac projects have received recognition at the Master Builders Queensland Housing & Construction Awards. Firstly, the Gold Coast University Hospital Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit won in the category ‘Health Facilities over $20 million’. This purpose-built facility is the first of its kind on the Gold Coast, offering a safe and modern environment for mental health care. The second award went to James Cook University’s Engineering & Innovation Place, named best ‘Education Facility over $10 million’. This cutting-edge building is now the heart of the university’s innovation hub, bringing together students and researchers in science, technology and engineering. Congratulations, colleagues!

4. Full speed ahead on the Nordhavn Tunnel (Denmark)

In Copenhagen (Denmark), work on the Nordhavn Tunnel is moving ahead. Earlier this month, the team closed the Kalkbrænderiløbet passage, which had kept access to the marina open, to begin sheet piling for a new working platform. The closure will last around five months. In the meantime, concrete works are progressing well, with teams casting the segments that will form the 1.4-kilometre cut-and-cover tunnel. Keep up the good work, team!

And then this... BESIX Middle East colleague recognised as a Champion of Construction

A big congratulations to Kassem Ben Abid, Head of BIM at BESIX Middle East, who’s been named one of Autodesk’s 2025 40 Under 40: Champions of Construction. This peer-nominated award celebrates rising talents shaping the future of our industry. Kassem was recognised for his dedication to digital transformation and his work integrating emerging technologies into construction. A well-deserved recognition for someone helping to drive innovation forward!
