Week of 13 March
1. Dubai Uptown Tower close to finish (UAE)
The 340-metre high Dubai Uptown Tower is nearing its completion stage with Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) getting ready to occupy their building. The construction progress has crossed the line of 98%. The hotel and office floors have been successfully de-snagged, and inspections and approvals from the Client are ongoing. The façade, civil, and MEP works have been scheduled to commence this week, while the concrete works in the Atrium Building beside the main tower are making good progress and should be finalised before the end of March. It is estimated that the DUT project will be handed over in the second quarter of 2023.
Congrats BESIX Dubai colleagues, you’re almost there!
2. All the way above the Terbregseplein (The Netherlands)
A timelapse camera and a drone followed the construction of the first part of the viaduct above the Terbregseplein as part of the A 16 ‘De Groene Boog’ project. These images show very well how much work was accomplished. In the meantime, our colleagues in The Netherlands also started building the second deck in the direction Rotterdam The Hague Airport. BESIX NL expects this deck to have reached the other side by mid 2024.
The consortium ‘De Groene Boog’, in which BESIX NL takes part, is in charge of the design, construction, financing and 20-year maintenance of the A 16 Rotterdam.
Good job, BESIX NL team!
3. Empowering safety in Paris (France)
The safety walk which took place at the Saint-Denis Pleyel metro station in Paris two weeks ago demonstrated a true commitment to our 4 fundamental safety principles: effective subcontractor engagement, efficient management of critical risks, strong empowerment of safety practices, with constructive feedback and rewards, and excellent implementation of our BE SAFE programme, which deals with safety in a behavioural and positive manner.
Safety walks are organised regularly on all our sites to enhance safety ownership among all project staff and subcontractors. Central to these walks are the workers’ participation and leadership.
Congrats to the Saint-Denis Pleyel team for their great commitment to safety!
This video gives you a nice overview of the works by the way!
4. Last pieces of the puzzle (Ivory Coast)
The puzzle has almost been entirely laid on the roof of the Abidjan Exhibition Centre! That’s no less than 8,000 unique-size tiles. Take a look behind the scenes of this extraordinary construction site in its finishing phase with a video from our partner PFO Construction. Works are progressing well all together and the Exhibition Centre is set to be completed by April 2023. Bravo to the Abidjan team! The finish line is in sight for you as well!
And then this...
The images below show the start of the construction of the first two Scheldt tunnel elements in the Oosterweel COTU project (Belgium).
