Week of 12 May

1. Labour Day celebration at Zayed National Museum (UAE)

On 1 May, the Zayed National Museum teams in Abu Dhabi (UAE) gathered to celebrate Labour Day, which serves as a moment worldwide to recognise working people and campaigns for decent work and fair pay. It’s an impressive sight seeing all the site’s workers in one of the museum’s near-finished exhibition spaces!

The Zayed National Museum is one of two world-class museums under construction by BESIX Middle East in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District, alongside the iconic Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. Once completed, it will celebrate the life and legacy of Sheikh Zayed and the rich history of the UAE.

2. One New Zealand Stadium rapidly coming together (New Zealand)

With less than a year of construction to go, the One New Zealand Stadium is rapidly coming together in Christchurch (New Zealand). In the entrance area of the western stand, escalators, stairs, lifts and the glass façade are all in place, while interior works continue on all four levels on that side as well. One of the major focuses on site is the roof cladding, with the base layer now complete and the top layer currently being installed. It’s great to see the pride and energy of our BESIX Watpac colleagues in this video. Keep up the good work, colleagues!

3. Franki Foundations nears completion of Matisse 16 (Belgium)

Our colleagues of Franki Foundations are wrapping up the final stages of their work for the Matisse 16 project. In recent weeks, they have been working on the installation of anchors through secant piles, a precise operation that is essential to the stability of the buildings. Matisse 16 is an ambitious mixed-use developement by BESIX RED. The project mixes sustainability, excellent connectivity and contemporary urban living, and will include residences, retail areas and offices.

4. Structural works complete at Maison de la Croix Rouge (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg)

Great progress in Luxembourg, where our LuxTP colleagues have just completed the structural works for the Red Cross’s future headquarters in Luxembourg, ‘Maison de la Croix Rouge’. The new building will bring together a range of Red Cross services, including a blood transfusion centre, volunteer and consultation spaces, and a training centre. The project is expected to be completed in 2026. Good luck with the remaining works, colleagues!

And then this... Sustainability recognition for Warsan Waste-to-Energy (UAE)

A proud achievement for the team at the Warsan Waste-to-Energy facility, which has been named Sustainable Project of the Year at the 2025 Construction Technology Awards. As one of the largest and most advanced plants of its kind, it treats 5,666 tonnes of municipal waste every day and can generate up to 220 MW of energy. Built in partnership with Hitachi Zosen Inova, BESIX Middle East is now taking on operations and maintenance for the next 35 years. Congratulations!
