Week of 2 February
1. Update from F Tower (Ivory Coast)
Our colleagues in Abidjan have shared new drone footage from the F Tower project, of which BESIX is managing project oversight and civil works for PFO Africa. The tower is steadily rising towards its final height of almost 400 metres, which will make it the tallest building on the African continent. With the structural works now close to completion, the team is entering the final stretch of this remarkable project. Well done, team!
2. Less nuisance and less CO₂ thanks to canal transport (Belgium)
In Grimbergen (Belgium), our colleagues of BESIX Infra is carrying out road and sewerage works on behalf of water treatment company Aquafin. And the site’s location beside the Brussels–Scheldt Canal offers a useful advantage. Instead of moving excavated soil by truck, the team is transporting it by ship.
Last Friday, the first 3,250 tonnes left by water, avoiding around 120 truck journeys through the area and reducing CO₂ emissions by about 65% compared with road transport. By using the canal, the team is helping to limit congestion, noise and dust in the surrounding streets, making the neighbourhood safer for residents and schoolchildren. Great initiative, colleagues!
3. New set of large equipment arrived at Hyoffwind (Belgium)
In the port of Zeebrugge, BESIX, BESIX Environment and John Cockerill have reached an important milestone at the Hyoffwind project. Two low‑pressure compressors arrived last week, marking another step forward in the assembly phase. BESIX Environment is leading this phase, which includes the installation of all process‑related components.
Once operational, the facility will convert renewable electricity from local wind parks into green hydrogen. With an initial capacity of 25 MW, scalable up to 100 MW, it’s expected to reduce CO₂ emissions by 25,000 tonnes annually.
4. New equipment alert (Belgium)
Our BEMS colleagues, the Equipment & Material Services team, continue to strengthen our fleet. Last week, two new wheeled excavators arrived and are now ready for deployment on our sites. Having a centralised team means clearer contacts for our projects, quicker technical support and smoother coordination across regions.
At the same time, BESIX Infra and Belasco are testing a new electric wheeled loader at their concrete and asphalt site in Bilzen to assess whether it could become a more sustainable alternative. The results of this test will guide a potential investment later this year. It’s encouraging to see these practical steps towards greener operations.
And then this... Corporate Arabic for Beginners at BESIX Middle East (UAE)
BESIX Middle East has launched beginner courses in Levantine Arabic among their teams. Participants in Dubai can join physical classes at the head office, while teams in Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Saudi Arabia and Oman are following the course online. The aim is simple: to help our people feel more confident when interacting with partners and communities across the region. Nice initiative, colleagues!
