Week of 21 November
1. Major milestones reached in Abidjan (Ivory Coast)
On the site of the Tour F project, works are progressing very well. The core of the high-rise has reached +50m! Progress was also made in the underground parking areas and in the retaining works: drilling works have started for the diaphragm walls. On the pictures you will also see how a crane is hoisted within the tower. Congratulations to all teams involved!
BESIX is in charge of the site management as well as the civil engineering works for PFO Africa, the project's designer and developer of the F Tower in Abidjan. It will be Africa’s tallest tower.
2. BESIX hosts the IPFA event on The Rise of Social Infrastructure Projects in the Middle East
On 15 November, BESIX’s Concessions & Assets Team hosted the latest IPFA* event on The Rise of Social Infrastructure Projects in the Middle East. Highlight of the event was a great panel and intense discussion on the future of social infrastructures and more generally on the new challenges and opportunities for the PPP (public private partnerships) market.
Special thanks to Nawara Msallati, Chief Financial Officer at Concessions & Assets for giving a brief introduction to the audience about social infrastructure PPP’s in the Middle East and to Nicolaas de Koning, Head of Bids and Assets at C&A for moderating the subsequent panel discussion.
The successful close of the BESIX & Plenary Group first social infrastructure PPP project in Abu Dhabi, the Zayed City Schools PPP, was also featured during the event.
*IPFA (International Project Finance Association) is the global association for the infrastructure and energy financing industry.
3. The only way down, was with a rope (Liège, Belgium)
An impressive rescue exercise was carried out recently at the Paradis Express site in Liège, in the East of Belgium, with a local fire brigade. The expert team leading the operation specialises in interventions in difficult environments, where normal fire-fighting techniques, like a fire ladder, do not suffice and where rope techniques have to be used. In this instance, they simulated the evacuation of the crane operator.
Have a look at the pictures to see the heroic stunts these teams must carry out!
The Paradis Express site is a new eco-neighbourhood which is currently being built in the heart of Liège by BESIX & Wust.
4. An excellent career start thanks to BYPD (Belgium)
Every year, graduating students in Belgium get the chance to discover the different job opportunities within our Group during the BESIX Young Professional Days. For one day, the soon-to-be graduates can network and learn more about BESIX as a future young professional, as well as meet our managers, recruiters and colleagues.
The BYPDs are a success every year, and a great source for BESIX to find some excellent job candidates, as the picture below proves. Meet 12 of the 18 young professionals that were recruited through last year’s BYPD!
