Week of 30 March
1. Big day in New Zealand
Last Friday was a proud moment in Christchurch as One New Zealand Stadium officially opened with a ribbon‑cutting ceremony, attended by Mark Baker, CEO of BESIX Watpac, New Zealand’s Prime Minister and other guests. The opening celebrates the successful delivery of this landmark project by our BESIX Watpac colleagues, completed on time and on budget after more than two million safe work hours. With its fully covered 30,000 seats, the stadium is now ready to welcome major sporting events and international concerts, with the first event coming up later this month. A fantastic achievement, congratulations to the entire team!
2. Progress along the R4 ring road (Belgium)
The BRAVO4 consortium is steadily upgrading 22 intersections along the R4 ring road around Ghent (Belgium). We recently shared the milestone of installing the Ringvaart Bridge in its permanent position, however, works are moving full speed ahead elsewhere as well. Our teams are currently active at several locations, including in Mendonk, where concreting is underway for the first part of the oval roundabout on the eastern side of the ring road. The second phase will follow later this month. Swipe through to see how this busy junction will soon take its final shape.
3. Steady progress on the A27 in the Netherlands
In the province of Utrecht, the De Groene Waarden consortium is moving ahead with the upgrade of the A27 motorway between Houten and Everdingen. Last Friday, the team installed a temporary bridge for the new split‑level junction. This smart set‑up separates construction traffic from general traffic, creating a safe and robust situation while preparations continue for the renewal of the Hagesteinse Bridge. A solid step forward for this busy stretch of road , well done to everyone on site.
4. New asphalt plant taking shape (Belgium)
In Bastogne, a brand‑new asphalt plant for Socogetra is rising from the ground, with the civil works carried out by LuxTP. After more than 20 years of service, the old installation is being replaced by a modern, future‑ready plant that is scheduled to come into operation later this June under the name Bastogne Enrobés. With a capacity of 240 tonnes per hour, storage for 600 tonnes of hydrocarbons and the ability to incorporate up to 80% recycled materials, the site will efficiently supply construction projects across the province of Luxembourg. Concrete and other materials will also be provided by our Group production entities GNB Béton and Enrobage Stockem. A great example of collaboration and sustainable ambition coming together on one site!
And then this... KiddyBuild opens the door to construction in Antwerp (Belgium)
As part of the BESIX Foundation’s initiative KiddyBuild, primary school pupils recently visited one of BESIX Infra’s sites in Antwerp (Belgium). Guided by our colleagues, they discovered what happens behind the scenes on a construction site: from the role of machines and the layout of roads and sewers to the many jobs involved in building safely.
The aim is simple yet powerful: to spark curiosity and introduce young minds to the wide range of trades in our sector. A big thank you to everyone on site for sharing their time and enthusiasm! Who knows, we may have inspired a future construction hero.
