Week of 11 September
1. Progress on Rail Baltica: BESIX's remarkable year of success (Latvia)
1st picture: the station area one year ago. 2nd picture: the station area last week. In just one year, BESIX's project team in Latvia has achieved remarkable progress on the prestigious Rail Baltica project, with the concourse slab of the station clearly visible on the 2nd picture. This progress is a testament to BESIX's project management capability and dedication to delivering world-class projects. Round of applause for our Riga team!
2. Milestone-packed August: Celebrating achievements at the Dubai Waste-to-Energy Project (UAE)
Last August, the Dubai Waste-to-Energy project achieved several crucial milestones, including the completion of the plant's road network and the commencement of waste deliveries. The "first-fire" of the first line was successfully initiated, and Dubai Municipality sent in its approvals for Phase 1 of the project. Another major milestone was the successful completion of the Performance Testing and Reliability Run, signifying the official commencement of the Early Operations Period, meaning that we are now exporting power to the Dubai electricity grid. Congrats to our Dubai colleagues!
3. Saint-Denis Pleyel station hosts Legion of Honour ceremony (France)
Our beautiful Saint-Denis Pleyel metro station served as a prestigious ceremonial venue for the presentation of the Legion of Honour to Bernard Cathelain, a member of the board of Société du Grand Paris and our esteemed client. The award was presented by former French Prime Minister Jean Castex and we take immense pride in this honour!
4. Enhancing safety at Nordhavntunnel: first concrete samples cast and fire-tested (Denmark)
Our project team in Copenhagen has cast the first concrete samples of the future tunnel’s roof and walls. The concrete samples have been sent to a special lab in Germany where they are currently being fire-tested. Ultimately, the tests will show how long the fire protection material used with the concrete (PP fibres and fire boards) can resist the heat and flames before it starts to lose its strength and integrity. The test is based on the assumption that in a worst-case scenario a 50 m³ fuel fire could occur, lasting up to 120 minutes, with a temperature reaching 1.350 °C. These tests are crucial because the results will help design how many fibres and what thickness of fire boards are required in the tunnel. Congrats to our colleagues in Denmark for reaching this essential safety milestone.
And then this… Family Day for BESIX in Belgium
More than 1.000 people from BESIX SA attended the annual Family Day in the nature park Pairi Daiza last Sunday. A glorious mix of fauna, flora, sun, and smiles – to thank staff members for their daily commitment.
