In Antwerp (Belgium), BESIX is currently involved in the Oosterweel Link project, the major infrastructure project that will transform the Antwerp ring road and greatly improve mobility in and around the city. BESIX's role includes contributing to the construction of the Scheldt Tunnel as part of the TM COTU joint-venture, as well as working on the temporary highway for demolishing the Merksem Viaduct, and constructing the Canal Tunnels as part of the TM ROCO joint-venture, which also involves BESIX Infra.

The Oosterweel Link project is a remarkable endeavour and showcases impressive engineering feats. Because of that and recognising the project’s importance to Europe’s road network, The B1M, the leading video channel dedicated to construction, architecture, and engineering, decided to highlight the Oosterweel Link project in one of their recent videos.

The video offers insights into what is often referred to as 'the site of the 21st century' in Belgium and showcases the remarkable work being done by BESIX and BESIX Infra. It explains the various components of infrastructure that will contribute to the success of the Oosterweel Link project and highlights its importance.

The video also features Jan Bauwens and Dieter Van Parys, two of our dedicated colleagues on the project, who share their insights about the work done at the dry dock in Zeebruges, where the eight tunnel segments for the Scheldt Tunnel are currently being built, and proudly talk about what it’s like to work on a project of such a scale and of such importance. Congratulations, Jan and Dieter!

“Later, in a few years, when I drive through the tunnel with my children, I will be able to say ‘Look, that’s what daddy did!’,” Dieter Van Parys, Project Manager at BESIX for TM COTU.

As video host Fred Mills says: “Sit back & get ready for a deep dive into one of Europe’s most important megaprojects”:
