Dear colleagues,

Have you booked the date of 28 April in your calendar?
True to BESIX Group tradition, we are holding the BESIX Group Global Safety Time Out, a moment where all BESIX Group employees pause from work to reflect, learn, and talk about safety, even more than usual.

In 2023, the Global Safety Time Out focuses on two topics:

  • For office staff, tools will be provided to help you to create a stress-free work environment. If you’re a team member, you will receive a training about this from one of your line managers. If you’re a people manager, you should have received the training by now. We kindly urge you to pass on what you’ve learned to your teams.
  • For site staff, the Global Safety Time Out is an opportunity to dig deeper into the BE SAFE - Principles. Your site management or QHSE-responsible will invite you to your site’s Safety Time Out. If you haven’t been informed yet, make sure to ask your site management about it.

A short introduction to BE SAFE

BE SAFE is a programme managed by BESIX Group’s QHSE department. It is meant to create a workplace where everyone feels empowered to raise concerns and ideas.

While the BE SAFE ambassadors play a key role in making sure that the BE SAFE principles are applied across all sites, we are all responsible for taking ownership and fostering mutual trust when it comes to safety.

The BE SAFE Principles summarize 4 clear steps:

  1. Step back and observe your work environment. Focus on critical risks and behaviours.
  2. When all is good, take action by congratulating the colleagues around you. If you spot unsafe actions or behaviours, or if you spot Life Saving Rules-infractions, intervene immediately.
  3. Engage with your coworkers in a respectful manner and try to understand what has happened. Ask open questions and look for a solution together.
  4. Congratulate your coworkers on their efforts to correct their behaviour. Promote best practices in your team(s).

We count on you to take part in this Global Safety Time Out, because safety is and should always be our top priority!
