The construction of the Riga Central Hub of the rail project Rail Baltica has reached a significant milestone with the completion of the assembly of the first arch structure. This visually marks the highest point of the station at almost 30 meters. The construction works have been ongoing since November 2020, and this achievement signifies a major step forward in this ambitious infrastructure project.

The installation of this arch structure also paves the way for continued progress in constructing the roof structure. Thousands of steel pipes will be used to create an intricate network, resembling a three-dimensional puzzle, as they interconnect through steel nodules. This innovative design ensures both structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.

In addition to assembling the arch, several other construction milestones have been accomplished. The concreting of the 6,000 m² concourse slab on the third floor has been successfully carried out. Passages to railway platforms have also been built, including future connections between Timothy and Elizabetes Streets.

Adjacent works on railway overpasses are also underway, with load-bearing structures being constructed for multiple overpasses across different locations. Meanwhile, final touches are being put on an overpass at street level near Riga International Bus Station to enable convenient underground access for customers in upcoming phases.

Looking ahead to 2024, plans include further roof construction activities. Additionally, escalators, elevators, and improvements to the station area will be implemented. The construction of the new railway bridge over the Daugava River will also start next year, on the right bank.

The realization of this ambitious project is made possible through collaboration between leading construction companies. Belgian construction company BESIX Group, Latvian builder Rere Būve and Italian builder Rizzani de Eccher have joined forces under the joint-venture BeReRix. Their collective expertise drives the design and reconstruction of the Riga Central Railway Station complex, as well as the development of new European gauge tracks and a railway bridge over the Daugava River.

Rail Baltica represents a significant step forward in enhancing transportation infrastructure in Latvia. The completion of key milestones demonstrates continuous progress towards creating a modern, efficient, and sustainable rail network that will benefit both local commuters and international travelers.
