Last week, our team in Dammam reached a key milestone with the first major concrete pour for the Dammam Stadium substructure. With 500 m³ of concrete poured, this marks the start of the foundation works. A total of 200,000 m³ will be poured in just slightly more than 10 months. We wish the team great success on this significant concreting journey!
The Dammam Stadium is an initiative of Aramco and is being built by BESIX and Al Bawani in a Design and Build formula. It will be ready for the 2027 Asian Football Confederation Cup within a challenging 29-month timeline.
Top-notch stadium
Designed to seat 46,200 spectators, the stadium will feature VIP hospitality sections, player accommodations, advanced media facilities, training pitches, parking, an energy centre that will supply power and cooling, and extensive road and landscape developments. This project is a step towards Aramco’s vision of excellence in sports infrastructure in Saudi Arabia.
Project start in sprint mode
The project started quickly, achieving the first concrete pour just four months after the Letter of Intent of 19 February and less than a month after the contract was signed on 16 May. Despite the tight schedule, the team completed soil improvement works, including probing and grouting, and thoroughly reviewed the design plans for the reinforced concrete structure. The reinforced concrete works were then launched successfully.
Next steps
Our colleagues in Dammam have also signed a contract with the steel structure subcontractor, with the first steel plate cutting scheduled for the end of June. Another interesting feature of the stadium is that the bowl structure will be precast, using around 30,000 m³ of concrete.
Leveraging decades of global experience
BESIX brings its renowned expertise in constructing monumental stadiums to this project, including the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, a 60,000-seat world-class stadium; the Al Janoub Stadium and the renovation of the Khalifa Stadium in Qatar; the Queensland County Bank Stadium in Australia; and the Te Kaha Christchurch Stadium in New Zealand currently under construction.
“Our strategic entry into Saudi Arabia is driven by BESIX's exceptional engineering capabilities, showcased in our successful delivery of complex projects across the region.
