Week of 30 January

1. Important visit at BuildUp (Belgium)

Last week, BuildUp, the start-up in offsite construction sponsored by BESIX/Vanhout, received a high visit: Flemish Minister of Finance and Budget, Housing and Real Estate Heritage Mathias Diependaele came by to admire the company's ins and outs. Several representatives of BuildUp's partners were also present. After a short presentation by CEO Hélène de Troostembergh, those present were also given a tour of BuildUp's production hall.

BuildUp is a pioneer in Europe in the field of offsite construction with hybrid systems, both for new buildings and energetic renovation. Thanks to their technology, buildings can be renovated and made energy-neutral quickly and efficiently.

2. Major milestone for the Oosterweel project (Belgium)

Now that the construction pit in Zeebrugge is ready, the construction of the elements of the future 1,800 m Scheldt tunnel can start. To celebrate this milestone, Regional Minister of Mobility Lydia Peeters (Flanders) visited the pit together with the several partners of the JV.

Once built, the 8 tunnel parts (each weighing approx. 60,000 tonnes) will be towed on the water from Zeebrugge to Antwerp via the North Sea and Western Scheldt and immersed at the right place in a pre-dredged trench in the river.

Known as the jewel in the crown of this crucial infrastructure project, the Scheldt tunnel will be the most important connecting element in the Oosterweel link and closes the Antwerp Ring Road on the north side.

3. BESIX’s know-how attracts yet another delegation on Waste-to-Energy project (U.A.E.)

Regional Minister for Climate, Energy, Mobility and Infrastructures Philippe Henry (Wallonia) and his delegation have visited the Waste-to-Energy plant in Dubai. It was a good opportunity for BESIX to highlight our expertise in the energy sector. Colleagues Emmanuel Craenen and Nico De Koning welcomed the delegation.

BESIX and its partners are building the world’s largest waste-to-energy plants in a single phase in Dubai. The facility will process 1.9 million tonnes of municipal waste per year and produce approximately 200 MW of renewable electricity. The project includes financing, design, construction, and operations and maintenance of the facility for 35 years.

4. BESIX, proud of “Building A Future For Our Heritage” (Egypt)

These pictures gave us goose bumps! The whole Alexandria-Cairo Desert Road that runs alongside the Grand Egyptian Museum has been equipped with splendid billboard highlighting the contribution of the BESIX-Orascom joint venture to this magnificent project. One can’t repress a huge feeling of pride to see our logo next this landmark.

And then this... BESIX family building BESIX Infra’s new headquarters (Belgium):

  • Project management: BESIX Infra
  • Contractor: Vanhout
  • Foundations: Franki Foundations
