A few months ago, ingenious project managers at BESIX Infra came up with the idea of moving around our construction sites by bicycle. This idea was investigated, and some bicycles were purchased to test the feasibility of the concept. With a promising result: BESIX Infra acquired 30 robust mountain bikes which will definitely redefine site mobility.
The bikes were fully tailored to the needs on site. Every detail has been carefully considered: reflectors, appropriate lights, bicycle pumps, water bottle holders, hooks for transporting measuring equipment, and detachable bike bags so that project managers can easily take their work materials and documents with them on their journeys. This not only increases safety but is also much more convenient for our staff.
But this is not all, pedalling across our sites offers numerous other benefits:
- Improved efficiency and time-saving: our infrastructure sites often stretch for several kilometres. On two wheels BESIX Infra project managers can move more quickly across project sites and the teams working on them. Not only does this give them more contact with the workers on site, but they can also coordinate everything better and deal with any problems in a more immediate way, saving valuable time.
- Eco-consciousness and sustainability: completely emission-free, bikes stand as an eco-friendly alternative to conventional fuel vehicles. By using bikes, we contribute to a cleaner, greener environment, by reducing the carbon footprint.
- Health and well-being: beyond environmental benefits and higher efficiency, using bicycles also offers health benefits for the project leader. Regular exercise not only improves physical fitness but also reduces stress and promotes general well-being, making our project leaders feel better about themselves.
- Cost savings: last advantage, bikes are cheaper to maintain and do not require fuel.
