National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) is an important time of the year for everyone living in Australia. It is a time for all Australians to learn about their shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each and everyone can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
At its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous peoples, for the benefit of all Australians. For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, Australia’s colonial history is characterised by devastating land dispossession, violence, and racism. Over the last half century, however, many significant steps towards reconciliation have been taken.
Reconciliation is an ongoing journey and BESIX Watpac, profoundly committed to Indigenous engagement, is passionate about continuing its reconciliation journey.
“We have made significant progression in our business over the past four years including; beginning our Reconciliation Action journey in 2020, setting Indigenous participation targets on projects, establishing a National Indigenous Staff Network, increasing our engagement with local mobs and supporting a new charity partner - Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF)” explains Mark Baker, CEO of BESIX Watpac.
