BESIX RED is proud to announce the release of its first Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Impact Report for 2023-2024, marking a major milestone in its sustainability journey.

"This report reflects our commitment to integrating ESG principles into the core of our company culture and every project we develop", says Laurent Sempot, BESIX RED’s Sustainability & ESG Advisor. “Sustainability is no longer an optional add-on—it’s now an essential part of our business model, from project conception to delivery”.

The report focuses on the following fundamental dimensions:

1. Environmental goals

BESIX RED is working towards ambitious carbon reduction targets: a 42% reduction in emissions for scopes 1 and 2, and a 25% cut for scope 3 by 2030.

“To tackle the environmental impact of our buildings, we’ve implemented a comprehensive strategy, starting with life cycle analysis (LCA) for all projects,” explains Sempot. “This tool helps us minimize the environmental footprint at every stage—from material sourcing and construction to operation and decommissioning. In 2023 alone, over half of our projects underwent LCA, and we’re targeting 100% by 2026”, Sempot adds. BESIX RED is also committed to creating fossil-free buildings by 2026, using 100% renewable energy technologies. Advanced solar panels, high-efficiency geothermal systems, and real-time energy management systems are being integrated into projects. The company also prioritizes passive design features like natural light, improved insulation, and optimised ventilation to reduce energy demand from the start.

2. Social responsibility

Social impact is central to BESIX RED's mission. The company is committed to enhancing the well-being of its employees, the occupants of its developments, and the surrounding neighbourhoods. Our focus includes health, comfort, safety, diversity, and inclusion.

"We conduct comprehensive social and economic impact analyses for every new project to ensure that our developments provide tangible benefits to the communities we serve," emphasises Sempot.

3. Governance and compliance

BESIX RED is committed to upholding the highest standards of corporate governance, with a focus on transparency, ethics, and responsible practices. The company’s governance strategy aims to not only optimize operations but also foster sustainable and balanced growth by promoting inclusive management and protecting stakeholder interests. “Central to this approach is integrating sustainability principles into decision-making processes”, says Sempot.

In line with its ESG strategy, BESIX RED is actively working towards compliance with EU Taxonomy and CSRD regulations, ensuring alignment with international sustainability standards. “By building strong, trust-based relationships with stakeholders, the company aims to deliver buildings that meet the highest environmental and social certification standards, reflecting its commitment to responsible business practices and long-term growth”.
