Week of 17 April
1. Latvian Prime Minister visits Rail Baltica project (Latvia)
Latvian Prime Minister Krisjanis Karins visited Rail Baltica's future international station in Riga last week, to discuss progress with the site management.
He was welcomed by our colleague Guntis Aboltins, Managing Director of Bererix, the JV in charge of the project, composed of BESIX Group, the Latvian builder RERE Būve, and the Italian construction company Rizzani de Eccher.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister stressed that it is in Latvia's interest to successfully implement the Rail Baltica project, the importance of which has increased further in the current geopolitical situation.
2. Iftar among colleagues (UAE)
Last week BESIX Middle East organised a private Iftar for its employees, a fast-breaking evening meal during the Ramadan period.
This was the occasion for all of them to see some old friends or to meet new colleagues around a nice meal!
3. Run, Bernard, run! (France)
Our colleague Bernard Parmentier, logistics foreman on the Tour Triangle project in Paris and proud BESIX employee for 31 years, ran the Marathon of Paris on 2 April.
He was one of the 51,100 runners in this 46th edition of the French capital’s famous marathon. Congrats Bernard!
4. Sod turning celebration (Australia)
On 14 April, BESIX Watpac held a ceremony to celebrate the start of construction of the new 40-bed Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit at Gold Coast University Hospital, in Queensland, Australia. The building is expected to be complete by late 2024.
Mark Baker, CEO BESIX Watpac: “BESIX Watpac has built a strong reputation for delivering high quality critical health infrastructure over the past 40 years and we specialise in delivering facilities that have bespoke design requirements.”
And then this... Global Safety Timeout on 28 April
Have you booked the date of 28 April in your calendar? This is a day where BESIX employees hold a timeout moment to reflect, learn, and talk about safety... even more than usual. This year it is dedicated to the BE SAFE principles for on-site staff and to the reduction of stress for office staff.
