The opening follows the completion of the works for this remarkable bridge, which is delivered by the BESIX Watpac-led Connect Brisbane consortium for Brisbane City Council. BESIX Watpac’s Chief Executive Officer Mark Baker joined Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, Councillor Ryan Murphy, Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government The Hon Catherine King and senior leaders of the consortium members to celebrate with the local community.
New landmark added to the city skyline
With a length of around 460 metres, the Kangaroo Point Bridge provides a world-class landmark linking the city centre and Kangaroo Point peninsula. It includes an elegant single-mast cable stay structure which complements the city skyline, dedicated cycle and pedestrian paths, viewing platforms and unique dining options.
Proud portfolio of work in Brisbane
The bridge is the latest project in BESIX Watpac’s proud portfolio of work delivered in the Australian city of Brisbane. Since the 1980’s, the company has consistently contributed to the city’s skyline having built numerous structures from stadiums and hospitals and health infrastructure to educational facilities and high-rise buildings.
BESIX Watpac takes immense pride in having collaborated with Brisbane City Council and its consortium partners to bring this new landmark to life. Moreover, the project was also a fantastic learning opportunity for the up-and-coming construction workforce with many apprentices and graduates employed, and students engaged throughout delivery.
