Week of 29 July
1. Dammam stadium footprint visible (Saudi Arabia)
Six weeks after the start of concreting work, the footprint of the Dammam stadium is already clearly visible. This new football stadium, located in the Dammam Sports City area, is designed to accommodate 45,000 spectators. It spans an impressive 800,000 m² and will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including hospitality areas, lodges, and skyboxes. It is scheduled for completion in time for the 2027 Asian Football Cup.
2. First crossing over the Kangaroo Point Bridge (Australia)
Last week, BESIX Watpac CEO, Mark Baker, took a first official walk over the Kangaroo Point Bridge in Brisbane with local officials. This marks a significant milestone following the completion of the bridge’s structure. The project is now 90 % complete.
3. Structural work completed on A16 in Rotterdam (The Netherlands)
The structural work for the fly-over over the Terbregseplein on the A6 Rotterdam has been completed. All concreting works have been finalised, both decks are positioned on their bearings and all the necessary prestressing processes for the structure have been carried out.
But the fly-over is far from being ready. In September 2024, the precast beams for Deck B will be placed over the railway, and in October, the bridge deck joints will be installed. After that, the finishing work will follow in 2025 with the installation of railings, guardrails, lighting, signage, and other items. The A16 is expected to be operational by the end of 2025. Keep up the good work, A16 team, one final stretch to go!
4. Track works in full swing on Rail Baltica Central Station (Latvia)
Extensive track works are in full swing in Riga. Alongside earthworks, such as subgrade and subballast preparation, our teams are working on MEP installations and signalling systems. A key focus is the refurbishment of switches and tracks, critical components for the railway's functionality and safety.
In addition to these efforts, the waterproofing of the future ballasted railway deck has started. This crucial phase involves applying a complex waterproofing system to protect the concrete structures from water damage and ensure their longevity. By the end of the summer, we aim to have over 13,000 m² of concrete decks covered with this advanced waterproofing system, improving the durability and reliability of the railway infrastructure. Congrats on this steady progress, Riga team!
And then this… Olympic fever hits Saint-Denis - Pleyel Station (France)
Just a few weeks after the inauguration of the Saint-Denis - Pleyel station in Paris on 24 June, the station is getting crowded! The station is a crucial transport hub, facilitating the movement of athletes, spectators, and visitors to various Olympic venues, including the nearby Olympic Village and Stade de France. Even the Olympic Torch was spotted last Friday on its way to its final destination. We couldn’t be prouder to be part of this worldwide event!
