Week of 29 January
1. Paris fire brigades getting ready for opening Saint-Denis Pleyel station (France)
Last Wednesday a full-scale fire exercice was organised at the Saint-Denis Pleyel station. Our Paris team received excellent feedback from the Paris firemen, thanks to their good organisation and communication.
2. Successful fire tests for Nordhavn tunnel (Denmark)
Here's another example highlighting the importance of thorough preparation against fire hazards. This includes being well prepared in evacuation procedures and incorporating effective fire prevention measures into the building's design.
Our colleagues at the Nordhavn tunnel project are currently carrying out fire tests with the help of a specialised laboratory in Leipzig, Germany. In the first picture below, you see a specimen of a concrete panel before the test and after it has been submitted to a temperature above 1,300 C° for two hours and one hour of cooling. You can see that the panel successfully resisted these extremely high temperatures.
Well done, Nordhavn team!
3. Things are moving at Vanhout: Bronze award for CIRCL and delivery ‘Confiserie’ (Belgium)
Last week, CIRCL, a subsidiary of Vanhout, was presented with the Henry van de Velde Public Bronze Award, in the category Business Innovation. The jury was impressed by CIRCL’s concept, as it rethinks traditional housing construction by cleverly combining 2D and 3D modules and components. The unique dimensions and connectivity of those industrially manufactured modules combined with a standardised positioning of the various technical functions make it a quick-to-build system. It also enables the expansion and reuse of those modules. With the accompanying software, the user can quickly adapt the design to the specific building environment and personalise it. Congratulations to CIRCL/Vanhout for this nice recognition of a state-of-the-art concept!
The Henry van de Velde Awards are a platform for design in the Belgian Flemish Region and advocate for innovation and corporate social responsibility. They are named after architect Henry Van de Velde, one of Belgium’s greatest designers of the 20th century.
Watch also the video made for the occasion, in which Peter Bertels, Chief Technology Officer at CIRCL, explains their sustainable concept:
Last week our colleagues at Vanhout also signed the delivery of the renovation project ‘Confiserie’ in Antwerp. A beautiful rehabilitation of the old Roodthooft candy factory into apartments and offices, which preserved many authentic elements. Compliments to the Vanhout team for this magnificent renovation!
4. Safety days at LuxTP (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg)
On 18 and 19 January, LuxTP organised safety days for its staff. Participants were able to follow theoretical presentations, practical demonstrations, and workshops on protection equipment, harness awareness, shoring, ladder use, safety near moving equipment, and road risk. Many topics that are crucial to take into account to ensure safe working conditions.
And then this...
Last Wednesday, at the occasion of the Music Industry Awards in Flanders (Belgium), this video of Flemish rapper Brihang was shown. We thank our ROCO colleagues in Antwerp working on the Oosterweel Link project, for the very strategically placed BESIX branding behind him! 🙂 Chance has its way of doing things.
