Week of 28 October

1. Fire evacuation drill at Zayed National Museum (UAE)

Recently, a fire evacuation drill was held at Zayed National Museum under the supervision of Abu Dhabi Police and Civil Defence... And it was successful, with everyone evacuating safely to the designated emergency assembly point near the museum. Well done!

Zayed National Museum is one of two world-class museums being built by BESIX Middle East in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District, alongside the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi. The museum will showcase Sheikh Zayed’s life, legacy, and the history of the UAE.

2. Future construction heroes visit BESIX projects in Antwerp (Belgium)

Last week, two BESIX projects in Antwerp welcomed young pupils from nearby primary schools as part of BESIX Foundation’s KiddyBuild initiative. A big thank you to the teams at the Karel de Grote Hogeschool/Meir Corner project and of the COTU joint venture working on the Oosterweel Link for their dedication and effort. The children's smiles say it all! And who knows, the visits might have inspired some future construction heroes...

3. VIP visit at Mohammed VI Tower (Morocco)

Johan Beerlandt, BESIX Group’s Executive Vice-Chairman, and Othman Benjelloun, Chairman of Bank of Africa (BMCE Group), visited the Mohammed VI Tower in Rabat (Morocco). In joint venture with TGCC, BESIX is in the final construction stages of this remarkable 250-metre-high tower, which is designed to be visible from 50 kilometres away. Additionally, it adheres to top environmental standards with LEED Gold and HQE certifications and incorporates several innovations from our Engineering department.

4. Young interns conquer KevlinX site (Belgium)

On 17 October, the YOUCA Action Day took place, during which young students in Belgium visit nearby businesses and act as interns for one day. The site team of the KevlinX data centre in Neder-over-Heembeek (Belgium) welcomed some new ‘recruits’ for an unforgettable experience. For one day, Nathan, Nicholas and Tiago joined the team to discover the ins and outs of a construction site. They discussed the LEAN planning, conducted a safety walk and checked the prefab works. Great job to both the youngsters and the KevlinX team!

For each participant in YOUCA Action Day, €60 are donated to one of KIYO’s youth projects in Burundi. Based in Brussels, KIYO empowers children and youth to take control of their lives and understand their rights so they can help build a fair and sustainable society.

And then this… Welcome to BESIX Group!

Twice a year, our head office in Brussels hosts a Welcome Day for all new recruits in our Group. On Friday, 18 October, over 50 new recruits gathered for an in-depth introduction. The day included a general presentation of BESIX Group by our CEO Pierre Sironval, as well as presentations on QHSE, training opportunities, the BESIX culture, among others. We warmly welcome these new colleagues!
