Week of 27 January

1. Nordhavn tunnel site is shining (Denmark)

In Copenhagen (Denmark), our team is working hard on the Nordhavn Tunnel, a 1.4-kilometre cut-and-cover road tunnel that will run under the harbour over a distance of 700 metre. Currently, reinforcement works for the bottom slab of segment 45 are ongoing. Our reinforcment supplier, Buig Centrale Steenbergen, visited the site recently and was able to take a couple of stunning sunset pictures. Enjoy!

2. Franki Foundations at work for the Oosterweel link (Belgium)

In Antwerp (Belgium), the ROCO joint venture, of which BESIX and BESIX Infra are part, is currently constructing the Bypass, a temporary highway next to the Merksem viaduct. This will facilitate traffic flow when the viaduct is demolished in the coming years. But did you know there’s a third BESIX entity involved?

Our deep foundations specialist Franki Foundations is also contributing! After completing a nailed wall to stabilise the viaduct, they are now installing 78 bored piles under restricted height conditions using the Martello machine. Starting in mid-February, they will also begin installing 55 bored piles under free height as well. What a nice example of collaboration within our Group!

3. St George Hospital’s new façade revealed (Australia)

The teams of BESIX Watpac have been making exciting progress in the redevelopment of St George Hospital in Sydney (Australia). Last week, the façade was finally unveiled of the new 9-storey hospital building. The project will bring together a range of ambulatory and outpatient services that are currently spread across various locations. The new hospital will include cutting-edge facilities and improve patient outcomes by fostering better collaboration among multidisciplinary teams. Keep up the good work, BESIX Watpac!

4. High-tech Corda Arena is taking shape (Belgium)

And now we return to Belgium! More specifically to Hasselt, where our entity Vanhout is building the state-of-the-art digital Corda Arena. This venue will be the largest of its type in continental Europe, offering 10,000 m² of advanced technology installations. With a capacity of 4,000 attendees in person and an unlimited number of virtual participants, the arena is set to elevate (corporate) events and international conferences. Impressive, Vanhout colleagues!

And then this... BESIX Middle Easts hosts IPFA event (UAE)

Last Thursday, our BESIX Middle East colleagues hosted IPFA’s first event of the year in Dubai, focusing on industrial PPPs within the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council). Besides organising the event, they assisted IPFA with the evening's coordination. Elias Sfeir, Head of Concessions & Assets at BESIX Middle East, served as the moderator for the evening.

The IPFA (International Project Finance Association) is the global professional association for the infrastructure and energy financing industry. It aims to connect and promote the collective interests of the public and private sector.
