Week of 25 August
1. One year to go in Dammam (Saudi Arabia)
With just 12 months left until Substantial Completion, our teams in Dammam are pushing ahead on the Aramco Stadium project. With concrete works virtually completed, attention has shifted to the striking steel structure that’s beginning to shape the stadium’s façade. Inside, high-end finishes and services are taking form. Designed to welcome around 47,000 spectators, BESIX and our JV partner Albawani are on track for completion in 2026, just in time for the 2027 Asian Football Confederation Cup. Keep it up, team!
2. A complex disassembly in Tanzania
At the Tanga Jetty project on Tanzania’s north coast, our team has just completed one of the most complex and most demanding mechanical lifting operation. As the launching girder reached the abutment, it was time to disassemble the towering 40-metre-high A-frame, weighing no less than 50 tonnes! The lift required close coordination between all parties (including engineering, construction, HSE, and management teams) and thanks to thorough preparation, it was carried out safely and smoothly. A textbook example of teamwork and precision, well done to everyone involved!

3. Roof cladding past halfway mark at One NZ Stadium (New Zealand)
In Christchurch, the BESIX Watpac team is making solid progress at One New Zealand Stadium, with roof cladding now well past the halfway mark and on track to finish in September. With eight months to go until opening, the stadium’s exterior is coming together fast—steel sheeting and glass panes are being installed to reflect the colours of the Canterbury landscape. Inside, the players’ facilities in the west stand are already complete, offering everything from changing rooms to hydrotherapy pools. Nice work, colleagues!

4. Progress in Nordhavn (Denmark)
In Copenhagen, our teams are making steady progress on the 1.4-kilometre cut-and-cover Nordhavn Tunnel, a key infrastructure project that will improve access to the city’s northern harbour. Last week marked another major milestone with the casting of the first bottom slab in the crossing channel. Well done to everyone involved!
And then this... A sporty and unifying weekend in Alpe d'Huez for Franki Foundations
Last weekend, a number of our colleagues (including some of our entites, such as Vanhout and Franki Foundations) took part in the 2025 edition of Climbing for Life in Alpe d’Huez (France). Whether cycling, walking or trail running, each participant embraced their own challenge with energy and team spirit. More than just a sporting event, it was a moment of connection and support with encouragement and smiles carrying everyone to the top.
The initiative raises funds for diabetes research and support, and our colleagues joined forces with ambassadors living with the condition to show what solidarity and determination can achieve. Hats off to the whole team for their commitment and heart!
