Week of 22 July
1. And there was light (Australia)
The lighting on the Kangaroo Point Bridge’s 95-metre-high mast has been installed. The bridge will be lit up to promote major festivals, events, community awareness campaigns, and cultural festivals once construction is complete. As part of the testing and commissioning, it was lit in a red-maroon colour to support the Queensland Maroons team in the State of Origin rugby game series. The Kangaroo Point Bridge is anticipated to be completed in late 2024.
2. Two higher cranes for Triangle (France)
Two cranes have been jacked up at the Triangle project, as the tower is starting to rise in the Parisian sky. Works on Triangle started in late 2021 and are set to be completed by 2026.
And we can’t resist the temptation to share with you some pictures taken recently by a professional photographer. Triangle promises to be splendid once the final height is reached!
3. Hello Papa Tanga Charlie* (Tanzania)
The IT department has established an internet connection for the Tanga jetty project at sea. This connection will support all electronic applications needed for the project, incl. a personal location system to track workers' whereabouts for safety. Setting this up was challenging because there are no cables nor satellite internet available at sea. To solve this, we've used radio antennas to transmit the internet signal from the shore up to 5 kilometers out to sea.
*The younger ones might not recognise the reference to the disco hit ‘Hello Papa Tango Charlie’ in the 70s... :-)
4. First maintenance works at A27 (The Netherlands)
During the weekend of 13 and 14 July, the first maintenance works were carried out on the A27 between Houten and Everdingen. Some 245 workers worked on seven kilometres of motorway, milling, and processing 3,000 tonnes of asphalt, filling 3 kilometres of cracks, mowing and weeding, and working on traffic engineering installations. The next maintenance weekend is planned at the beginning of October.
Commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat, De Groene Waarden - a combination of BESIX, Mobilis TBI, Van Gelder Groep, and Mourik - is responsible for widening the A27 on the Houten-Everdingen section to improve traffic flow.
And then this… BESIX in top 10 of most popular Belgium-based companies on LinkedIn
BESIX has been mentioned as the 7th most popular company with location ‘Belgium’ on LinkedIn by social media trend watcher Bruno Peeters.
To get into this ranking, a company must have accumulated a solid number of followers. More than 250,000 for the top 10, more than 130,000 for the top 20, more than 70,000 for the top 50. With our current almost 332,000 followers, BESIX is well placed in the top 10 in Belgium.
