Week of 19 January
1. First sold out event for One New Zealand Stadium
Work on One New Zealand Stadium is moving into its final phase, with the first event scheduled for late April. From 24 to 26 April 2026, Super Round will bring top-level rugby, live music and plenty of entertainment. In the meantime, the stadium has reached its first full house for general seating for the One NZ Warriors against the North Queensland Cowboys. Exciting times ahead!
2. Let the water flow (Belgium)
Vanhout is making great progress on the new LAGO swimming pool in Bredene. Last week, the team filled the main pool with 540,000 litres of water, an important step on the way to opening. The complex also includes several recreational pools, a children’s area and a wellness zone. These are being filled using buffer systems, a smart and energy‑efficient way to limit heat loss. Nice work, colleagues!
3. Progress in Nordhavn (Denmark)
Work on the Nordhavn Tunnel in Copenhagen continues to move forward. The casting of the tunnel has been ongoing for several months and the team has now started installing the waterproof membrane, as shown in picture 1. This 1.4‑kilometre cut‑and‑cover tunnel, including 700 metres beneath the harbour, will greatly improve access to the city’s northern harbour area. Swipe through the images to take a short flight over the site and enjoy the aerial views captured in December. Keep up the good work, team!
4. Visible works of Ocotech joint venture have started (Belgium)
Our Group is involved in no fewer than three of the five Oosterweel Link subprojects, which will close the northern section of the Antwerp Ring Road and greatly improve mobility in the area. While works of the ROCO (Bypass and Canal Tunnels) and COTU (Scheldt Tunnel) joint ventures have been underway for some time, the visible activities of the Ocotech joint venture, which includes BESIX Unitec and is responsible for all tunnel installations and traffic systems, have only just begun.
In December, the team started installing the lighting columns at the Antwerp-East interchange. Their scope also covers variable LED signage, camera systems, vehicle detection, a pumping station to keep the interchange dry during heavy rain, and all required power and network systems. Good luck, colleagues!
And then this... A Night in Blue
Last week we celebrated our BESIX Group New Year Party, themed Night in Blue. It was a great moment to reconnect with former colleagues, meet new team members and start the year together in a positive spirit. A big thank you to the 900 colleagues who joined and helped make the evening such a success!
