Week of 16 March
1. Royal visit and milestone at GO4ZERO (Belgium)
Yesterday, King Philippe visited the construction site of Holcim’s GO4ZERO project in Obourg, where BESIX and Denys are delivering the civil works for this next‑generation cement plant. On site, the King received a detailed explanation of the technologies that will help reduce the environmental impact of cement production, before visiting the site itself.
His visit coincided with a major milestone: the assembly of the kiln, the centrepiece of the plant. Three large components with a combined weight of 731 tonnes were lifted nearly 20 metres above ground and installed with millimetre precision. This air‑oxyfuel switchable kiln, equipped with advanced carbon purification and CO₂ capture, will be key to achieving the plant’s ambition of producing up to 2.3 million tonnes of CO₂‑neutral cement annually by 2030. You can watch the installation in Holcim’s video on LinkedIn.
2. Logistics challenge at Triangle (France)
In Paris, our BESIX France team is now working on the final floors of the Triangle tower, which has reached its full height of around 180 metres. Because of the tower’s iconic triangular shape, the upper floors become very small, making logistics increasingly complex. With only one tower crane remaining, and external hoists stopping at level N+35, the team had to install no less than ten material loading platforms across eleven floors to keep everything running smoothly and ensure materials arrive just in time.
Located near the Porte de Versailles exhibition centre, this distinctive mixed-use development will bring together offices, a 4 star Radisson Blu hotel, retail, a restaurant, and a panoramic viewing deck.
3. Visit at Project Meir (Belgium)
At Project Meir, our colleagues recently welcomed our COO Construction, Jan Van Steirteghem, along with students from KU Leuven. Our COO praised the team for its professionalism and resilience, despite the many challenges encountered along the way.
Work on this mixed‑use development is progressing well: the façade of the first building on the Meir side is nearing completion, and the installation of the large arches (the centrepieces of the façade) is now underway. The project is transforming a former building complex into a vibrant mix of functions, including a sustainable campus for Karel de Grote Hogeschool and a high‑end retail complex for Meir Corner.
4. Kick-off Bank Street Park construction (Australia)
Last weekend, our BESIX Watpac colleagues marked International Women’s Day with the official turning of the sod for Bank Street Park, a project proudly driven by an exceptional team of women. BESIX Watpac CEO Mark Baker joined government representatives and the client to celebrate the start of construction on this 1.1‑hectare waterfront park.
As part of the NSW Women in Construction pilot project, the team is aiming for an ambitious 50% women’s participation across the entire project lifecycle, and is already setting a powerful example: nearly 90% of the BESIX Watpac team delivering the project are women.
Bank Street Park will be the first green space in the revitalisation of Blackwattle Bay and is expected to open in 2027.
And then this... Zayed National Museum named as World’s Greatest Place (UAE)
The Zayed National Museum has been selected as one of TIME’s World’s Greatest Places 2026, a recognition that highlights its striking architecture, cultural importance and inspiring visitor experience in Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Cultural District. Delivered in December 2025, the museum honours the UAE’s founding father and showcases the country’s rich heritage through six permanent galleries, a temporary exhibition space and a 600‑metre outdoor gallery. Its distinctive design, inspired by the wings of a falcon, has already become an architectural symbol for the region. You can view the full list here.
