Week of 14 August
1. Stepping forward: Deloitte University EMEA aces safety checks (France)
Progress continues at Deloitte's new training centre in Bailly-Romainvilliers, east of Paris. July 6th marked a significant key date in the project's development as the building received approval following the Security Committee checks. This test confirms that the new centre is ready to welcome future visitors safely. Our teams in Paris continue working on this project with a view to handing it over at the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2023. We wish them all the best!
2. BESIX Unitec: Spotlight on two major projects (Belgium)
The Ooigem lock, a vital component of the Roulers-Lys canal constructed in the 1970s, is currently undergoing significant renovations by BESIX Unitec. This infrastructure, which manages 4 million tonnes of goods annually, is being refurbished to ensure its continued reliability. Following an intensive 35-day renovation period, it will be fully operational by September.
This isn't the only endeavour currently undertaken by BESIX Unitec. The Belgian team has also carried out a project at the Zwankendamme pumping station, an example of ‘one-stop shop’ as BESIX Infra also cooperated in the project. A new pumping station was constructed while the previous facility was dismantled.
Both of these initiatives highlight BESIX Unitec's commitment and expertise in delivering critical infrastructure projects.
3. New project for the University of Mons (Belgium)
WUST is preparing to take on a new challenge with the construction of the new Centre for Contemporary Eco-Technologies and New Materials for the University of Mons.
This project, led by the Smart-Ecotech consortium, demonstrates a deep commitment to sustainability, as the 7,300 m² building will be at the cutting edge of ecology, surpassing energy requirements imposed by the Walloon region. Congratulations to our colleagues at WUST for winning this new contract!
4. BESIX to collaborate with Ersa Construction on Douala's Water Project (Cameroon)
Last week, BESIX signed a partnership agreement with Cameroon Water Utilities for the Douala drinking water distribution network reconfiguration project. This collaboration aims to inject 400,000 m³ of new drinking water per day in Douala and the surrounding area.
The Wouri River will see the installation of a new pumping station as well as new drinking water connection and storage networks for Douala's more than 4 million inhabitants. With a budget nearing 190.6 million euros, the project is anticipated to reach completion within a 36-month timeframe.
And then this… A woman honoured at BESIX Watpac!
During the North Queensland Housing and Construction Awards held on August 5th, Katie Garay from BESIX Watpac received the prestigious "Women in Building" award. This price not only highlights her determination and expertise but also underscores the growing prominence of women in the construction industry. Congratulations to Katie for this achievement!
