Week of 14 July
1. Topping-out milestone for Red Cross headquarters (Grand Duchy of Luxembourg)
On 1 July, our teams from BESIX and LuxTP joined the client and partners in celebrating the topping-out of the new Red Cross headquarters in Howald. The event marked the completion of the structural works and was a moment of appreciation from the client to everyone involved.
Once finished, the building - Maison de la Croix Rouge - will welcome beneficiaries, blood donors, volunteers and staff, offering a space designed for collaboration and care. It’s also aiming high on sustainability, targeting BREEAM Excellent and WELL Gold certifications, and will rely on geothermal energy to balance performance with comfort.
Congratulations, colleagues!
2. Bird’s-eye view over Rail Baltica (Latvia)
In Latvia, the BERERIX team are making steady progress on the Rail Baltica Riga Central Station project. This major infrastructure includes a new central station building, a railway bridge over the Daugava river, and extensive track and embankment works. Construction has recently resumed on the southern section, bringing renewed activity to the site. The project is part of the broader Rail Baltica initiative, which will connect the Baltic States to the European railway network. It is the region’s most significant infrastructure development in a century.
Take a moment to fly over the site and see the transformation for yourself!
3. The Oosterweel Link’s Bypass is taking shape (Belgium)
In Antwerp, our colleagues from the ROCO joint venture are making solid progress on the Oosterweel Link’s Bypass, a temporary highway that will keep traffic flowing while the Merksem viaduct is being dismantled. Two weeks ago, they poured the final concrete for the northern bridge deck towards the Netherlands, completing that direction of travel. They’ve also started installing the profiles for the noise barriers, which are now gradually appearing on site. These 4-metre-high barriers will help reduce disturbance for nearby residents.
By the end of October, traffic heading north will shift to the Bypass, paving the way for the viaduct’s demolition and the transformation of the Ring Road into a greener, partially underground route.
4. Zayed National Museum to open this December (UAE)
Exciting news from Abu Dhabi! The client has just announced that the Zayed National Museum will officially open its doors in December 2025. Located in the heart of the Saadiyat Cultural District, the museum will honour the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and the history of the UAE. It will feature six permanent galleries across two floors, along with a space for temporary exhibitions.
Best of luck to our team on the final stretch, team Zayed National Museum!
In the lead-up to the opening, the museum will be sharing behind-the-scenes videos. So if you're curious, follow ‘Zayed National Museum’ on LinkedIn.
And then this... BYC kicks off summer with a visit to Sarens (Belgium)
To launch the summer, members of the BESIX Young Community (BYC) headed to Willebroek for their first-ever company visit outside BESIX, straight to the heart of Sarens’ operations. The visit began with a presentation on Sarens’ major lifting projects, including some familiar collaborations with BESIX like the Henneaulaan bridge, the Solar Boat transport in Egypt, and the Atomium renovation. Despite the heat, the group toured Sarens’ impressive site – home to their largest equipment warehouse worldwide – and even got hands-on with a telescopic crane. A big thank you to Sarens for the warm welcome, the insights… and the fries!
The BESIX Young Community, or BYC, brings together BESIX employees under the age of 36, in particular through the organisation of activities aimed at creating a network and a community. Such communities exist in several countries where the Group is active.
