Week of 11 November

1. BESIX team praised for commitment to safety (Belgium)

In the southwest of Belgium, BESIX is building the core and shell of a hyperscale data center for Google to meet the growing digital demands with fast-track delivery. Two weeks ago, VIPs from Google conducted an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) visit. During this visit, our team impressed the client, who expressed gratitude for the excellent teamwork and commitment to improving safety standards. Well done, team!

2. Doubly victory for Mediavaert (the Netherlands)

Last week, DPG Media Nederland’s new headquarters, Mediavaert, won not one, but two awards! Firstly, it received the BLT Built Design Award in the category Commercial. In addition, it took home the prize for Office Building of the Year at the Architectenweb Awards 2024. Built by BESIX Nederland, it was praised for its hybrid-timber structure, in which the use of timber is maximalised and steel and concrete was only implemented where needed.

Incorporating 6,500 m³ of timber, Mediavaert ranks among the largest hybrid timber offices in the world. It also features highly energy-efficient solutions and green spaces, which has earned the project a BREEAM Outstanding certification.

3. Another busy month of construction progress for One New Zealand Stadium (New Zealand)

In Christchurch (New Zealand), BESIX Watpac has made significant progress for One New Zealand Stadium recently. One of the key milestones was the relocation of the giant hydraulic towers that support the roof installation. Each section of the roof, weighing up to 160 tonnes, is prefabricated on site before being lifted by crane, welded, and bolted into place.

Additionally, walkways and lighting are being installed in the roof structure, and the fit-out of all stands is proceeding well. Preparations for the installation of the façade cladding are also progressing smoothly, with the first sheets of steel cladding scheduled to be installed in November. You can watch the full update in the video below.

4. OASIS wins prize in America

Last week, BESIX won the Verdantix Innovation Awards Americas 2024 for our QHSE digital solution, OASIS. This award recognises our efforts to improve QHSE performance through digital innovation. It reflects the daily commitment of our operational and QHSE teams on-site, who work to raise risk awareness with our subcontractors, JV partners, and clients. Thank you to all colleagues using OASIS for their commitment, to BESIX Executive Management for prioritising QHSE, to our software supplier HSI, and to the entire OASIS team for their valuable contributions and enthusiasm.
