Week of 10 February

1. Steel superstructure One New Zealand Stadium completed (New Zealand)

Last week, BESIX Watpac achieved a significant milestone at One New Zealand Stadium in Christchurch by installing the final modules of the steel superstructure. They used the largest crawler crane in the country to lift these last two radial truss modules, each weighing 160 tonnes and standing 37 meters tall. Want to know more about this milestone and the rest of the works currently going on? Watch the monthly update below!

2. VIP visit at Mohammed VI Tower (Morocco)

Last week, Johan Beerlandt, BESIX Group’s Executive Vice-Chairman, and Othman Benjelloun, Chairman of Bank of Africa (BMCE Group), visited the Mohammed VI Tower in Rabat (Morocco). In joint venture with TGCC, BESIX is in the final construction stages of this remarkable 250-metre-high tower, which is designed to be visible from 50 kilometres away. Additionally, it adheres to top environmental standards with LEED Gold and HQE certifications and incorporates several innovations from our Engineering department.

3. Vanhout builds new state-of-the-art facility for Bouwcampus (Belgium)

Our colleagues at Vanhout, in partnership with Dethier, are constructing a new 5,500 m² facility for Bouwcampus, the premier hub for building innovation in Diepenbeek (Belgium). With the help of Vanhout’s entities ComTIS Energy and ComTIS Services, the project will incorporate cutting-edge technologies to create an inspiring environment for research and development in construction. The design is entirely modular and circular, enabling material reuse and easy adaptation to future needs. Additionally, the building will be energy positive, generating more energy than it consumes through features like solar panels and an advanced air treatment system that utilises natural energy sources. Wishing our colleagues success with this remarkable project!

4. Milestone alert at De Nieuwe Meer intersection (the Netherlands)

BESIX NL and its partners in the TriAX joint venture have achieved a key milestone in the De Nieuwe Meer reconstruction project in Amsterdam (the Netherlands). They have successfully poured the first underwater concrete for the construction pit that will facilitate construction of the new movable bridges over the River Schinkel. This underwater floor is reinforced with steel fibers to withstand groundwater pressure. Once the concrete has fully cured, they will pump out the water from the construction pit to create a dry work platform for building the eight new bridges.

The De Nieuwe Meer intersection reconstruction is one of five sub-projects under the Zuidasdok programme, which is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the Netherlands, aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety in the area.

And then this... Safety Days at Socogetra (Belgium)

Last month, Socogetra organised its Safety Days. During two days, the teams participated in ten practical workshops on essential safety topics, such as working at heights, ergonomics and the use of electrical equipment. These sessions provided a great chance to reinforce best practices and ensure safety for all field personnel. Well done, Socogetra!
