20 km of Brussels: Practical information

2 min read

Dear sporty colleagues,

In just under 2 weeks, you will be running the 20 km of Brussels. We'd like to share some more practical information with you in order to prepare for the day.

BESIX Fit Sportsbar

You and your fans are very welcome to join us at the BESIX Fit Sportsbar, in the shadows of the arches in Parc du Cinquantenaire, close to the start and finish line. This is our gather point. You can come here to greet your fellow runners, leave your backpack, catch up with some BESIX supporters and enjoy cold drinks and sports snacks.

Our Sportbar is at the same spot at the previous years, i.e. on your right-hand side after the arcades, direction city centre. Refer to the enclosed map if needed.

Race number & starting waves

Race number

Good news: the race numbers have now arrived at BESIX headquarters in Brussels (Ave des Communautés 100, 1200 Brussels), where you can come and pick them up. They are available at the Communication department, on the 4th floor. Turn left when you get out of the lift. Our desk is right before the corner, in front of the kitchenette.

  • Are we not there? Then look for your name on the envelopes on the desk, take yours and don’t forget to mark your name on the track sheet!
  • You can’t make it? The race numbers that won’t be picked up in time will be available on the day of the race at the BESIX Sportsbar.

Starting wave

Your race number contains your start time. That time depends on the arrival time you gave when registering. All starting waves will start between 10am and 10.30am, with a 6-minute break each time. All runners should be ready at 10am. You will find a map of the start boxes on this webpage.

Cancelations

Are you indisposed or injured and thus unable to run? Be sure to let us know at communication@besix.com. We have a waiting list with a number of runners who will gladly take over your registration!

Mobility

Brussels is traditionally very difficult to reach on the day of the 20 km. Many streets will be closed off. Try to hop on public transport or a bicycle to get to Cinquantenaire Park.

You can find more info on the website of the 20km of Brussels.

Advice for runners

  • Be prepared. Run only if you have trained sufficiently.
  • In warm weather: Wear a (preferably white) hat to walk. Wear light clothes. Be careful not to throw water over your head. Your shoes may get wet, causing blisters!
  • Make sure your meals before the race are high in carbohydrates (pasta, rice, couscous, white bread, pancakes).
  • Add extra salt to your drinks or meals. It helps to retain water.
  • Drink more water beforehand.
  • During the race, drink 200 ml of liquid every 20 minutes. Choose an isotonic drink, instead of water.
  • Make sure you drink enough after the race too, to help your body recover.
  • Listen to your body. If you experience dizziness, nausea, disorientation or hyperventilation, adjust your pace. Don't hesitate to quit the race to avoid worse.

Have fun and keep it safe!
