Vanhout: official Open Company day at the new Asster psychiatric hospital building in Sint- Truiden

Group 1 min read

In collaboration with the construction company Dethier, our colleagues of Vanhout are on the verge of completing new units for Asster, the psychiatric hospital in Sint-Truiden. Construction started in May 2022 and is set to conclude by the end of October 2023.

These specialised units have been designed to provide high-quality care within a tranquil and optimal environment, with a deep respect for residents, visitors, staff, and the broader community. One of these units, named "Spika", catering to children and teenagers aged 12-18, has already been delivered. Another unit, "De Zeilen", opened its doors on Sunday, October 1st, for Open Company Day. Its first unit - “Zeilen 1”, will serve young adults aged 18-23, whereas “Zeilen 2” will be reserved for adults with intellectual disabilities or severe behavioural issues.

This past Sunday, during the Open Company Day, the unit warmly welcomed neighbours and visitors, granting them a unique opportunity to explore the state-of-the-art facility before it becomes operational. It was a rare behind-the-scenes look at an otherwise closed institution, an enriching experience for those curious about modern care provision and innovative construction techniques.

During the event, the project site was honoured to host Jo Brouns, the Flemish Minister of Economy, Innovation, Work, Social Economy, and Agriculture. His presence added significant value to this special occasion.

Our colleagues at Vanhout were thrilled with the fantastic turnout, with 1,500 visitors in attendance! Congratulations to all involved in this project, which promises to have a positive impact on patients’ care in the region.
