Safety and progress impress at Aramco Stadium

Group 1 min read

This weekend, the Aramco Board of Directors visited the construction site of the Aramco Stadium in Khobar (Saudi Arabia), a flagship project that continues to capture attention for its scale and complexity. The atmosphere during the visit was one of genuine enthusiasm and mutual respect.

Representing BESIX, Johan Beerlandt (Executive Vice-Chairman), Pierre Sironval (CEO), and Peter Lembrechts (General Manager Middle East) welcomed the Aramco delegation and showcased the steady progress made on site. The visit was marked by constructive dialogue with H.E. Yasir Al-Rumayyan, Chairman of Aramco and Governor of the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, as well as Aramco’s CEO, Amin H. Nasser.

The Aramco executives expressed strong appreciation for the pace of construction and, notably, the exceptional safety culture embedded throughout the project. With thousands of workers engaged and millions of man-hours logged, the site has implemented some of the most advanced safety technologies and protocols in the region. Photos from the visit highlight the intricate network of safety nets installed to protect workers operating at height.

The Aramco Stadium, designed to seat approximately 47,000 spectators, is set to be completed in 2026, just in time for the 2027 Asian Football Confederation Cup. From the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah to the Te Kaha Christchurch Stadium in New Zealand, BESIX continues to set new benchmarks in sports infrastructure.
