In November 2024, BESIX and Denys began work on the GO4ZERO project in Obourg (Belgium) for Swiss cement manufacturer Holcim. This initiative involves the construction of a decarbonised cement production facility and aims to produce close to 2.3 million tonnes of carbon-neutral cementitious materials per year by 2029.
The project includes than 70 different structures, such as electrical substations, a covered corrective storage area spanning more than 200 metres and a train unloading station. The most striking feature is undoubtedly the 60-meter-high silo building, constructed using climbing formwork and featuring an inverted concrete cone. As we speak, the first phase of the works on this silo has been completed, with the structure now reaching a height of about 20 metres. So far, 30,000 m³ of Holcim’s ECOPACT low carbon concrete has been used.
