Brisbane is witnessing remarkable progress in the construction of the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge (KPGB) by BESIX Watpac, a project that's reshaping the city's skyline. With over 240 metres of deck spans now extending across the river, the bridge has moved past its halfway completion mark. When completed, the total length of the pedestrian and cycle bridge will stretch to 460m.
The central mast, which will anchor the myriad of cables to support the structure, has risen these last few weeks with the installation of the lower legs, cruciform, and upper legs. Now it's time for the 180-tonne pyramidion to be hoisted to become the masthead of the Kangaroo Point Bridge.
One week ago, it was loaded onto a barge in preparation for its journey up the Brisbane River. The 28-metre-tall masthead has passed underneath the Story Bridge at low tide, leaving only 2 metres between the top of the pyramidion and the bridge deck. This maneuver required precision and careful planning but was executed flawlessly.
A unique aspect of this project is the 20-storey tower crane, centrally positioned on the river. This crane, remarkable for its size and strength, holds the record for the largest lifting capacity globally. It's truly amazing to think that such a powerful machine can be placed in such an unconventional location...

The Kangaroo Point Green Bridge will not only provide a new river crossing between Kangaroo Point and the business district but also offer additional amenities such as an over-water restaurant and café. This landmark project aims to enhance connectivity and create a space where people can gather and enjoy stunning views of Brisbane's skyline.
