Week of 17 October
1. A Prime Minister at the Grand Egyptian Museum (Egypt)
Mid-September, the BESIX-Orascom Construction JV took a significant step towards completion by delivering substantial parts of this cultural masterpiece. Egypt’s Prime Minister, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, visited the Grand Egyptian Museum on 24 September to oversee the progress. The completion rate of the main building and overall site is now at 99.8%! Finally, last week, the joint venture had two additional reasons to celebrate: on 27 September, BESIX and Orascom Construction won the Autodesk Excellence Award 2022 for Best Construction Project for their use of BIM software. To end the month, the project teams also celebrated another impressive safety milestone: 20 million man-hours without any severe incident (LTI).
2. A Minister at the Saint-Denis Pleyel Station (France)
On 12 October in Saint-Denis (Paris), the Saint-Denis Pleyel project teams had the pleasure of welcoming the Minister Delegate for Transport, Clément Beaune, to the project site. The client was able to present the progress of work on this future nerve centre of the Grand Paris Express and the future line 14. The line will be a strategic axis for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where it will serve major sites such as the athletes' village, the Olympic aquatic centre and the Stade de France. More generally, this line will carry more than a million passengers a day and will provide better service to the North and South.
On the picture, you can see some colleagues from BESIX France (Andres Panaloza, Frank Somers and Sébastien Reyns) with the Minister, representatives of the client and partners. What a nice bunch of guests!
3. A boss at uni (France)
Last week, Pierre Sironval, Deputy CEO of BESIX Group, had the pleasure of presenting BESIX and its real estate division BESIX RED to students in the Master's programme in Real Estate Investment and Construction Management and Strategy at the Sorbonne University (Paris, France). At the end of his presentation, the students were able to ask him about the group's strategic choices in terms of environmental technologies, international expansion, profitability, urban development and materials sourcing.
4. And 30 colleagues on the Parisian asphalt (France)
We can’t help but feel very proud of our 30 colleagues from BESIX France who ran the 20km through Paris last weekend. Out of these, no less than 9 finished below the 1:40’ mark: an impressive result. Specific kudo to Adrien Lahaye who completed the race below the 1:30’ mark at exactly 1:29’28’’. Round of applause for these very fit and dedicated colleagues!
