The Ministry of Public Works and Waterways (Rijkswaterstaat) has provisionally awarded the reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer intersection in Amsterdam, as part of the Zuidasdok programme, to the TriAX consortium consisting of BESIX, Dura Vermeer and Heijmans. The final award of the contract can be awarded once the so-called Alcatel period has passed.
This assignment has a contract value of approximately € 350 million. BESIX NL’s share of this amounts to one-third of the contract sum.
Preparatory works will start in the first quarter of 2023 and commissioning is scheduled for 2031. This assignment is a perfect match with BESIX NL’s expertise and competencies.
Improving traffic flow
The reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer intersection is one of five sub-projects in the Zuidasdok programme, one of the largest infrastructural construction projects in the Netherlands, which aims to improve access to the northern part of the urban conurbation by road and public transport.
The Reconstruction of the De Nieuwe Meer intersection will improve traffic flow and traffic safety in this busy metropolitan area. The intersection and part of the A10 South motorway from the De Nieuwe Meer intersection to the Amstelveenseweg intersection will be completely reconstructed over a length of approximately two kilometres.
In the chosen solution, the traffic on the intersection and the A10 south motorway will be separated by creating a main and a parallel structure on the A10. This main and parallel structure of the A10 south will later link up with the main and parallel structure of the Zuidasdok Tunnel project.
This will be achieved by building four new movable bridges over the Schinkel river, widening the A10 to provide space for the main and parallel structure and the adaptation of the underlying road network, including the reconstruction of the Amstelveenseweg road. In addition, the operation and control of the Schinkel bridges will be modified, making it possible to operate this remotely.
