BESIX Watpac: new contract for St George Hospital

Group 1 min read

BESIX Watpac has been awarded a new contract to deliver the third major stage in the redevelopment of St George Hospital in New South Wales (Australia). The project will involve working closely with partner South Eastern Sydney Local Health District to construct a world-class Ambulatory Care Precinct for the client Health Infrastructure. The new complex will bring together a range of ambulatory and out-patient services that are currently delivered from various location on the campus.

The AU$240 million project aims to meet the increasing demands of the hospital, providing the St. George and Sutherland community with access to state-of-the-art facilities that will improve patient outcomes and foster collaboration between multidisciplinary teams.

This project has been tailored to the community's unique needs and will be undertaken in three stages, including the construction of a new Ambulatory Care Building (-3 to +8 storeys), hospital decant, and the commencement of operations within the new building. Additionally, the project will include the construction of a new public forecourt, green spaces, and further refurbishments. The redevelopment will also provide additional inpatient beds, enabling more accessible care for patients and ultimately improving health outcomes.

At the height of the project, the operational team will count some 350 employees, of which no less than 20% will be apprentices and 5% indigenous participation. The works should be completed by 2026.

This is the seventh project BESIX Watpac has delivered for Health Infrastructure since 2014, including the Hornsby-Ku-ring-gai Hospital Stage 2 Redevelopment, the Forensic Medicine & Coroners Court, and the Port Macquarie Base Hospital Expansion.

BESIX Watpac will also use every aspect of its experience in delivering complex, live-environment projects in order to guarantee project certainty.
